Right guys major problem, the new engine wont fit!!!!
The new engine sump

is hitting this

And is totally different to the old engine's sump

What the hell is going on???
looks totally different, old oil sump is 1 piece the new one is 2 piece (the black part is separate)
both have b6 stamped on them, both 1.6 mark 1 engines.
Gutted for Sean is not the word.

to answer my own question, they changed the bloody sump post 1993, according to this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...1&indexURL=
So next question, are they interchangeable??? Ie can we swap the sumps over?

OK lads, this is where we do a collective novena to our respective Gods , and if you happen to be a non-believer just take on one of the major religions for the next few days.

Is there a patron saint for motorists?? If this gets sorted by the weekend I nominate Ashley for canonisation 8)

Lads, good luck and if it doesn't work out Seán, I'm sure someone will give you a lift at the run

Forgive my relatively little knowledge here, but can the sump be fitted after engine installation or is there not enough room??

Wouldn't be enough room to tighten all the bolts on th pan john. Also if it is from a later car then there is going to be 25 missing pomies. Also some guys on the uk forums are very suspicous about what this came out off and what the hell it is. (apart from a car and an engine for any of you wise guys!!!)

if there is a number on it you should be able to trace it from that

depends where the collector is on both of them..

I don't think thats an MX5 engine tho.. let me go ask someone about that..

no, they don't think its an MX5 engine either..

There was only one subframe afair for the mk1, so that should confirm it...

I'd get back on to the dismantlers and tell him to come pick it up while he's dropping off the correct engine.
