Stripey got junk in the trunk

Spoiler alert - reading this may lead to terminal boredom. Continue at your own risk

Been on holidays this week, and weather has been sh1te – so this evening decided to spend some time on the car. When I got the car there was no jack handle or battery cover (how does one lose a battery cover?) and with no battery cover you could see a fair amount of rustiness peeping out.

With the battery removed, thankfully everything was rock solid – just a covering of surface rust.

Gave it a going over with a wire brush, and sanded, then a coat of primer.

Followed by a coat of generic silver I had in the garage (which matched surprisingly well). The some rubber grommets I had lying around filled some of the holes (anyone spot the deliberate mistake when grommeting?).

Battery terminals cleaned and battery back in on a new mat.

Then recently acquired battery cover inserted to finish things off.

I see on your other post about hoses in the boot. That battery you show in the pics above has the connection for them hoses , although it is the wrong battery , connect hoses to vent on battery. The battery needs to be secured properly for NCT ,

Thanks for the reply Robert, and "Ah.....the light bulb goes on".... now I look at the photo of the battery above I can see the tube on the side...... I didn't actually look there last night (DOH!). And you are right, it's not an original battery (maybe that's why I had a bit of hassle clamping it down!)
