wouldn't go into gear with engine on

I was moving the MX5 this morning, its been sitting still for a few months. I started the car but couldn't get it into any gear. Turned car off, no problem getting it into gear, so it wasn't the slave or master.
Ended up putting it into reverse gear and starting it with the clutch in, it jumped back initially (as I'd expected) then idled normally.
Am I right in thinking that the friction disk had stuck to the flywheel due to lack of use?

Hi Steve, common enough for disc to be stuck to flywheel or pressure plate.Be fine now.

nice one.
Also, my clutch pedal is engaging almost on the floor, not sure if it was always that way and I just need to get used to it again ;-) Must bleed it anywho.

Check fluid level and have look at slave cyl in particular for leaks. If not then master cyl.Possibly in the cabin behind the clutch pedal area/carpet etc.Bleed it if not and monitor the level etc

yeah, had checked levels and all look ok plus fluid still not black. Might just swop it out while I'm at it.
thanks

Hi Steve , sometimes it hard to bleed the system but if there is still fluid in it may be ok.Fully drained they can be awkward.I have old master cyl cap which I drilled a hole and popped in car tubeless valve and now I can pressurise the system slightly with slave cyl nipple open and works a treat every time

cool thanks.
The Master was "bench" bled when I put it in and have a straight run clutch hose from master to slave (no pigtail bit), so am hoping it'll bleed easily enough.

Steve, where did you source that straight run clutch hose from master to slave you mention above. Reason I ask is that mine wouldn't go into gear after about a week up on ramps doing various jobs. Turned out clutch fluid reservoir was more or less empty. Checked slave and master cylinder and both seemed fine. Filled up with fluid and pumped clutch and see that its weeping from that flexible clutch hose where it joins that flat square bracket before lower steel line heads on down to the slave. Looks like a right pain to get at. Was wondering why they run the piping over and back along the firewall before going down to the slave, as both master and slave are on the same side of the car. Anyway what you mention makes sense, so was thinking of going this route if I knew what type of hose to get (length etc), fittings I might need, and where to get it. Is it same for mk2 as mk1? Sorry for kinda hijacking thread.

Ya that's the way I did mine on the mk2
I think I got the straight SS hose from a group buy on nutz but I think mx5 parts do them as well but be sure you get the hose from the master to the slave not just a SS hose to replace the existing rubber hose and keeping the pig tail
Ring them if your not sure

I bought mine through a group buy on here a number of years ago, but that line looks exactly the same.
V.quick and easy to fit (and you can pull all the old line).
