Why do you have a mx5/ eunos

Going to ask the question here, it most likely needs to be moved but I don't know where to put it.
So the question is, why do you have a mx5/eunos?
I'll kick it off
(1A, my neighbor has one and I'm jealous).
1, I've always wanted a convertible
2, I've always wanted something I could do up
3, I've now realised a MG roadster is too expensive and not worth it
4, hopefully, when I'm bored with it, I might get my money back when I sell it
5, thanks to it, it keeps me on track.

I've had alot of cars over the years, some brand new, some crappy POS's.. and all of those cars were boring in the sense that you would drive past people on the road and not get a second glance.. when I'm in the 5 you will always notice people checking your car out, kids wave at you when you pass. That's why I have my 5.... it's memorable.

1. I had one in the late 90's - it was my only car - and I LOVED it. Then along came children and it had to go..... and since then have always wanted to have another MK1.
2. (as above) - it's fun to drive
3. (as above) - driving it makes me feel happy
4. (as above) - it looks different from most other cars on the road
5. It's aesthetically pleasing to look at
6. You can drop the roof in seconds (changes the look of the car - still looks really good)
7. You can put on the hardtop (changes the look of the car - still looks really good)
8. They are now (relatively) affordable.
9. it's iconic (i think of it the same way as I do about mini's and Beetles!).

I bough mine as a toy after getting 6months tax back, it also replaced my motorbike after crashing it and then i got a automatic nissan almera after breaking my leg in that crash, that was a new low for me.....so the mx5 was a bit of temporarily relief & excitment

I bough the car for cheap some summer fun & never planned on keeping it, So fast forward to now 3.5 years & 45k miles later and im still driving it every day. In which time ive
*done a few track days
*learned a good bit of spannering myself (replaced soft top, fitted coilovers, brakes, servicing, interier & electrical fixs etc)
*took it for a summer trips to the alps

But now im getting old and my back can't take the 1hr traffic communte & lack of storage, so i have just bought somehting more sensible. A 200bhp mk5 Golf GTI DSG :) will miss the mx5 but im definetly not selling it ever !!

I find that the mx5 is a car you want to drive and tinker with rather than have to

That's two very cool cars in your stable... enjoy.

And yes, Pops, I see it and WANT to drive it.... everytime.

It also has that "look back" factor. You know the one. You park it up, lock it, and walk away........ then just have to have a look back. Not to mention the smile it creates everytime you walk back towards the car.

I never liked Japanese cars but the first time I drove an MX-5, a '93 1.6, I was hooked. I had always owned German cars up to that point, mainly cars like
Mk2 Golf GTI's, Corrado, BMW's etc. At that time I had finished restoring 1987 BMW 325i Sport. It was a lovely car with a gorgeous sounding straight six
engine. But the Irish system being what it is, I was getting nailed on motor tax with that 2.5 engine. The 1.6 of the Mazda looked ever more appealing.
I think the MX'5's have the classic appeal of the old Brit cars like MGB roadsters, Triumph Spitfire etc but with modern brakes, handling and reliability.
I'm on my third Mk1 at this point. I've invested a fair bit of time and €€€ getting it to where it is now and is surely a keeping by now (I hope !).
Although, it's looking like an R53 Cooper S will be joining it soon...... :D

I noticed other folk in the centre copping an eyeful when the MX5 was being driven through (including me!).

I presume you passed OK ? ***EDIT!!!!! Just read in your other post that it passed..... well done (and a great feeling when it does).
