Hot engine bay

I've always thought that the engine bay was fairly hot, last time I drove it around connemara the cabin was very hot even though the heater was turned to cold, it was probably one of the warmest days we had as well, the only way to get the cabin cooler was by using the aircon even though the roof was down.
Today I went for a different type of spin, used the motorway for a change, steady 120kmh no problem, no real traffic either but after being parked for 10 minutes after I got home while turning on the ignition the engine fan came on straight away, the engine bay was very hot, so hot that you couldn't touch any part of the bay.
Engine temp is normal and doesn't use any coolant, I'm wondering if the previous hot cabin was a result of the engine bay being so hot

Yup I get this too, especially around the gearbox tunnel. Replacing the gear lever boots relieved a fair bit of it tho

Ya, the gearlever boot was one of the first things I did when I got the car, certainly made a difference
