long time no post. Hope you all are managing ok during the lockdowns - at least you can get out for a spin with the top down Unfortunately my baby is in West Cork and I'm stuck in Dublin. She's garaged so nice and warm and I did get to say hi in December,

I'm looking for someone in the Cork area to take a look at her (for those who don't know me it's a Japanese import mk2.5 2001) with a view to identifying if anything's wrong and probably do a bit of minor (hopefully) underbody work to keep her ticking along. I have a great local mechanic so it should be just body work- needs to be inspected underneath and perhaps give me some pointers for what needs doing and recommendations for where I could get the work done.

My roof is leaking too, that could just be the seals, but I need some advice here. I have the original roof, been taken care of, but everything has it's time, right? No cracks or splits so maybe it's ok.

Don't know too many of the Cork lads/lassies and it's been a while since we've had a run so excuse me for the shout out. When we can leave Dublin we are planning to be down from the 12th of March for a week, nct is on the 13th - i don't think there will be any issue with it passing (fingers crossed)

This is a long term project and there is no rush, at the moment mainly looking for some local contacts in Cork, or West Cork (based just outside Rosscarbery)

Can any of ye point me in the right direction?

Hi, the forum has been extremely quiet lately so it might be when the weather improves that the mx5 owners start checking in again before you get much help. If inside of the car is getting wet it may be the windscreen drains are the problem.
I've found the mx5 Community to be fairly helpful so hopefully someone in the Cork area with time on thier hands might be able to help

Hi Shenab, How are you?. Im in Cork city but have a base in Castletownsend. Theres a garage on the way in to Leap - Shanahans I think they might be worth a shout and not too far away. I dont know if they do anything MX5 related. Otherwise I think Cork really. Ive used a guy but he is in Mitchelstown and has just done full recommissioning on a MK2. Hes a full time mechanic at a main dealer and did the 5 at home on his own time. Even at that it didnt take long but I supplied all parts as he needed to make sure I got exactly what I wanted.If you want a number for that guy let me know. Best of luck.

Len, Great to "meet" you. Spent my summers in and around Castletownsend. Have family that used to live in Gortbrack now in union hall.

I'm well known in Shanahans. They look after all my mechanical needs (and some of our friends that need the occasional jump start)

Finn outsources the bodywork tho. I'd rather go by recommendation from one of the gang on here before I go to talk to someone. I also think the 5 is a bit small for Finn, he's a big guy Mitchelstown might be a bit far, I'm not in any rush and I know Paulc and co sometimes pop by to the site so they might have someone a bit more local to us in West Cork. But that is the kind of person i'm looking for so I might come back to you on that.

Pops, the leak is definitely the drivers side window area, have been in the car in the rain and it pours in. I have cleaned out the drains, and seals are a bit ropey at this stage and I really need someone who knows the 5 to let me know if its seals or roof and check if the flooding (!) caused any long terms issues underneath. If it's just seals Finn can do for me, if it's roof I know there are members that would assist me in replacing it myself (gulp), ideally I'd like to do it locally but if I need to bring it back up - I will.

Oh and another thing that could be related, the window motors are crawling and central locking - isn't! Again, could be related to each other. Its definitely needs a once over by someone who knows.

TBF its a good opportunity for me to get to know the network in Cork as we will be relocating sometime in the fast approaching future. Hopefully this damn virus will get running and we can actually have a tech day sometime again.

Howaya, sorry about the late reply, I've been up to d'elbows in other stuff lately.
Re the roof, if there are no splits or tears, adjusting the seals should fix. Where is it coming in? Front/side?
Window runners prob need a regrease, its a matter of removing the door card, peeling back the plastic protection sheet and you'll see the runners.

Hi, just logged in today to see what is happening in MX5Ireland and spotted your post. I don’t have a specific recommendation, but I have been looking for someone to do some sill work on me ‘04 Ehphonic which is off the road for another while yet. I have heard of G&D Garage in Dunmanway, they do car restoration and were mentioned in Irish Vintage Scene recently for work done on two Minis. May be worth having a talk with?
