Getting back on the road

Doing a few bits before taxing it on 1st May, nothing serious but just checking for sticky brakes etc.
The hardtop was covered in overspray to the extent that it felt like sandpaper so I used a clay mitt from farecla, very good results and so much easier than using the polisher and compound.
Next mission is to try booking a nct for May as I forgot about it, nearest date locally is mid August ImageImageImage

Pops looks great. I never clay bar'd any car. Had it done by a company in Blackpool in Cork on my old A4 convertible daily driver. Turned out really well. Am keen to try it myself but that mitt looks good. Meeting a client in Cork this afternoon in the same carpark as halfords so job for the weekend. The roof looks great from the pic. NCT's are a total disaster. We are booking cars for June / July.

Thanks Len, the mit is easy to use but it needs to be lubricated very well, I used a strong mix of car wash&wax / water, I also did the civic with the same process, finished it with a coat of detailer spray and looks decent for such a crappy car.
On the nct side of things, I was given a tip that cancelled appointments are re released after midnight, I was able to get one that suited perfectly for Monday 9th May, just hoping they don't get too active with the poker screwdriver like they did a few years ago

Taxed it today, back on the road for a quick 50km spin, runs great for a car that hasn't been used for nearly 6 months, only complaint is a squeek from the front drivers side latch of the hardtop, not too bothered about it as the hardtop is coming off anyway.

Nct done today, even watching from the window in the waiting room I could hear the tester "gently tapping" the underbody with the poker, anyway, it passed so all good. Roll on the sunshine

Good luck with your test.
I found the mitt very good but you do need it well lubricated, works very well at removing the hard to clean road grime from the windows as well

So due to a multitude of excuses I haven't driven it since the nct in early May but today I decided to use it to go to the motor factors about 5km away. Traffic was backed up all the way to the exit of my road so I turned left instead and did a 100km round trip of connemara ImageImage

Sure did, don't know what happened to the galway traffic today but on my way back there was about a 2 mile tailback heading into Moycullen, thankfully I was going the other way

Great yo have it nct'd and back on the road. The car looks great.

I've used clay bars a few times - they work really well (but as you say, you need lots of lubrication and care!).

Nice to get out in it again, I've also spotted a few around galway over the last few weeks, no idea if they are local though
