Todays connemara trip

Postby Pops » Wed, 31 May 2023 5:38 +0000

Almost 200klm around connemara today, this time I went the other side of Killary, fabulous views but you need to watch the road, went past Delphi and by chance I noticed the sign for Sheffry Pass and remembered Steve mentioned it so I'd nothing to lose so turned right and what a road, a bit rough in places( mx5 with lowered and stiff suspension isn't suitable here) but it has had some maintenance, mostly room for one car but the scenery is fantastic ImageImageImage

looks great, another good route into Connemara is the L1301 toward Finny. across from Maunn to Cong or left there into Mayo around lough mask, great views and some nice flowing sections of road. I cant remember what the surface is like , we used to do it on motor bikes,

You're spot on, I saw 2 motorbikes coming out of the road to finny somewhere near lenane so i checked it up on Google maps when I got home, looks like a nice trip around lough mask and back by cong, another day out in this weather is great

So, as suggested, I went for a spin to finey , didn't go according to plan as somewhere on the way I missed a turn and ended up in turmakeady, so kept going to partry and back by shrule and headford before getting stuck in the galway traffic in the middle of a downpour.
Some pics of lough na fooey and lough Mask

Out again yesterday, didn't do connamara this time but drove around Kinvarra and corkscrew hill, on to lisdoonvarna etc, came back by ennis and the motorway home as it was getting late. No pictures as I didn't stop anywhere due to all the traffic, connemara is much more enjoyable

Let me know when you are passing this end again, I'm only a few mins from Kilcolgan.
