old model passats and skoda superbs with leather etc, etc. can be sourced well worth the money in the uk. don't forget, if taxi drivers use them they have to be good. big problem now is watching out for flood damaged cars.

yeah, I don't like Passats and I'm not a fan of Skoda's either.....but yeah, they are reliable all the same. Dunno what buy just yet.
Flood damage and clocking too, gotta have the eye's peeled.

stay away from the most popular brands and their are great bargains, although fords and vauxhalls are good value in diesel although vauxhalls have some issues with diesel particulate filters. most others clear with a good hard run but once the light comes on in a vauxhall/saab 1.9 or 2.2 its garage time and big bills.

if you buy the jag don't get serviced in jag showroom. prices almost double compared to ford for same parts. cousin a spanner jockey with arnold clark in glasgow. he says ,same parts in a different box.

I'll not buy that Jag Barney, but a estate version (need the luggage capacity) in 03 or 04 would suit me. You're bang on there, They are on a Mondeo floorpan and all ford running gear......great engine, 55mpg, I had 2 mondeos, serviced them persoanally, terrific jammer - and the X-type's kinda rare here ain't they......and you can say to someone "I drive a Jag" ala the line on Top Gear!

I'd go along with the jag or a honda accord estate. Honda up to 07 has a manifold cracking issue and a serious timing chain issue but guess what ..honda are covering both. Did €2500 worth of work on brother in laws even tho it was a personal import and 4 years old..hows that for customer service. Vw products are so poor at moment. Electrics are dreadful... you are guaranteed a 5 year old passat will have some prob with elec windows or central lockin or keys etc. Also they use dual mass flywheel set up for clutch. So a clutch kit is now €1200!!! and they fail often. ask any caddy driver. gearboxes also weak on some models. I wouldn't go by taxis sure they all wanted mercs one time and see what dung stutgart is throwin out now. Round here they all drive peugot coz cheap to buy and got a big boot. The rav d4d is one i'd look into.. it is only suv that betters the factory mpg. and it's a jap.
