Picked up a set of professionally cleaned 1.8 tan top injectors for 50 euro.
I need to get some new O rings, is it one per injector?
I'm going to try a bit more boost, is 8psi too ambitious, with 254cc injectors, std ecu + Bipes and FMIC. Anyone a plug reading expert?
Should i look at retarding the base timing a bit if i run more boost?
I know i need a WB02 (that's a wide band 02 sensor John) but i had to get a new family car this week so no more to be spent on the 5 till next year. Great time to buy a used car though, the price corrections are as bad (or good) as the housing market.
any advice welcome

Thanks Ger , the 02 sensor bit i get,but the wideband thing?...over my head I'm afraid One of these days..............................................

from experience, you need a rolling road sesion.
Can they check the fuel mixture from the exhaust gases as the leave through the exhaust pipe like in the NCT? If not all i will get are power figures.

the best money you will ever spend is on a rolling road session. Those guys are used to setting up Rally Cars with very expensive engines with turbos or highly tuned n/a engines. The gains you can get are well worth the money. I once had a Fiesta supersport on the rolling road in the RTC Dundalk a long time ago. Thought it was sweet . Stage 2 head with bigger valves, 285 duration cam, Janspeed system, leads plugs et al. Engine was overfueling badly and timing curve was all wrong . Got an extra 25bhp at the wheels by changeing main jets and air correctors and changeing the dizzy springs but more importantly , the engine was no longer overfueling to the extent that it was bore washing the cylinders with way too much fuel. Ended up with 95 brake at the flywheel which was nice for a 1320 cc pushrod lump and the fuel economy went way up too.This was all done with the probe up the exhaust and checking readings and adjusting to suit. Small changes = big power gains.

I cant really afford to get a link or megasquirt at the mo.
With the factory ECU there is no tuning can be done for fuel. I can tune fuel prior to the ECU going into wide open throttle with the O2 clamp, good for the knock prone 4-5k rpm. And i have some control over timing and rev maps with the BIPES.
I suppose if I can get the boost and timing and fuel pressure right (three things I have some control over).
My Local tuners is Track day performance in rathnew. Anybody used them?
I have been out in westward before but its a bit of a trek from south wicklow.
Just talked to track day performance they charge 120 for an hours rolling road and tuning time and 80 per hour after that.

Going to fit the 1.8 265cc injectors today. then go for a dyno power run in early jan. Found a good series of dynos form a set up the same as mine to standalone & 12psi here is the power run on greddy with bipes 265cc tan tops FMIC, O2 clamp, free flow exhaust boost 6psi, no frills setup. The graph is from a member of the miata turbo forum 170 hp & 145lbs tourque not bad, thats in around 200bhp. The stock 1.6 ecu seems to handle the injectors, 14.7 ish out of WOT, getting quite rich before boost (this is the O2 Clamp Loading fuel for boost, this can be made a little leaner, mine is currently set a 13.2:1) and 12.5:1 in boost, almost perfect.

I'd be happy enough with 193 bhp. Fitted the injectors today, an easy enough job. Fuel lines were a little difficult to get off and i found it easier to open the bolts on the stock fuel pressure reg and rotate it to get the fuel rail out (not mentioned in the rod grainger book). I did not realise there were seals where the injectors meet the engine so i had to reuse the old ones. Used new O rings and rail to injector seals. No sign of any leaks, did get a little bit of smoke as the engine came up to temp but i presume this is the just the fuel/water that leaked out onto the engine burning off. Cant take it for a drive as we are snowed in here in wicklow at the mo.

The stock ECU seems to have no problem with 265cc injectors.
Ticks over fine, not lumpy at all. Pulls harder on full boost, more noticeable in 4th and 5th. I suspected i was running a bit lean on the top end. Its probably ticking over a bit rich, Nct coming up soon so i can compare it to last year. As soon as ireland thaws out i'll go to westfield and get a power run.
Next i need a WB02.
Did you go for an AEM steve and how was the fitting?
There is a guy on miata turbo selling new ones for 190 dollars.

mk2 and 2.5 injectors have a better spray pattern than the mk1 1,8 tantops
lc-1's need recalibrated from time to time , which is frustrating but the aem uego gauges are rock solid - sumo were selling these off at £160 not so long ago , plus the aem uses a bosh sensor thats only 50 quid to replace if it ever fails
