Missing My 5

Postby gunners5 » Sun, 09 Mar 2008 1:11 +0000

Hi all have been doing a fairly major overhall on my 5 this winter pics to come soon.i am just wondering if anybody has used polybushes from mx5parts as two front lower wishbone bushes do not fit in their eyes and are holding me back from finishing the car or is it suppose to be like this?
really pissed and miss the car

I've done that job twice (2 different cars) and having just changed car again am facing the prospect of a third time. It's a bit of a pain but it's worked ok so far .........

When you say don't fit, are they the wrong size or just an absolute bitch to get in?

I remember someone (reesy?) getting the wrong bushes in the kit but other than that it's just tons of soapy water and a press (or a piece of threaded bar, a few washers and a 42m 3/4 drive socket)

I had a problem with those exact same bushes and had to replace them, lucky for me Mx5Parts got onto PolyBush UK and they sent over replacements free for BOTH sides.
It wasn't a problem getting them to fit, it was that the metal insert worked itself free in the bushing and the wishbone started 'floating' on it. The alignment kept going off and you could actually 'hear' the polybush being twisted in the wishbone. When I took out the faulty ones you could see where it was worn down from the friction.

The problem is that the bush extends exactly 5mm from its wishbone eye this surely cant be right?it is the right bush to.i have fitted original rubber bushes in the past which fit perfectly to other mxs but this is first time using polybushes.how did your car feel on the road after fitting fergus?

It felt like a new car !
There's something up if it's 5mm to long, they should pop in perfect and the 'lip' on the bushing should line up at each side of the wishbone etc.
Send it back and they'll send you replacements.
