Another 20th Anniversary Idea!

Postby MX5Steve » Tue, 18 Mar 2008 12:43 +0000

Went to the paddys day parade today (Waterford) with the kids and the mini club of ireland had a display, Looked well! Perhaps we could consider this also.
A van at the front with the logo plastered across and "ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM" blasting out. Maybe try and get the largest group meet ever!
Just a thought.......
Heres some pics.

The newbridge parade yesterday had 10 american muscle cars..trans-ams, dodge chargers, camaras etc. Thought there was thunder when they fired up. One guy had his decked out as a replica "general lee" Very impressive.
Funny thing was they were followed by a number of mk 1 starlets..from the sublime to the ridiculous!! :)

Parade 2009

Postby robmx5 » Tue, 18 Mar 2008 8:37 +0000

Guys,

What are the chances of Mazda Ireland funding an event like a display in the St Patricks Day parade next year to celebrate the 20th Anniversary - I know it costs a bit to participate but given the publicity that they would get, I bet you it would be worth it for them - especially if they were considering launching a 20th AE ? Anyone got any contacts in Mazda Ireland or Motor Distributors ? We could show a collection of the different models launched to date and maybe invite colleagues from other countries, like Dubai and New Zealand !!

Hey Adam, maybe you could ask in Mondello for a contact name for someone in Mazda? Might be a starting point

Jaysus lads. We're very confident about gathering large numbers for a wee beep beep ride in a parade but we can't even gather a handfull of 5's for a meet up and a run.

Carts and horses come to mind.

C'mon the northern run Saturday 29th March. You know you could try harder

In all fairness the Northern run is a weekend, and a really long drive for southern members. I'm sure even if we got 10 members we could do something, also mazda could throw in two brand new Mk3's out front as advertising. Why wouldn't they want to do it?

And just to hark back to previous discussions on this topic.....have we read K10'sm post under the "For Sale" heading - he is selling a 1989 (check the reg. plate) MK1.

Does the debate about 2009 or 2010 for the anniversary continue!? Perhaps, if someone does make contact with Mazda re: a run to commemerate the 20th Anniversary, they should ask them when Mazda views the 20th anniversary.

The confusion was between 1988 and 1989, the official launch was 1989 but the car was introduced to the press in 1988. So the debate is which do you use as a start date. Seen as mazda haven't mentioned anything about a 20th this year they must be using 1989 as the birth date.....

Yes but you said it was because it was a long drive, thats why you would not go. Not going because you have kids is a different excuse.

if you dont want to go to something thats fair enough. But to try and organise something for a paddys day would take a lot more time than a weekend, so to me it just seems silly.

just my 2 cents worth.
