Any interest in doing this next year? "Irish Photo Rally"

Postby fobbzy » Sun, 06 Nov 2011 6:00 +0000

I know, I know this is for motor bikes but hear me out........

Few of the lads at work have done this for the last 3 years, and they have had great fun doing it.....

http://irishphotorally.com/

Yep I know its for bikes but it really looks good fun.... To quote the organizers....

"The list is ideally an eclectic mix of out of the way places & quirky or interesting things; it is really designed to help people overcome inertia, to give them an excuse to get up off the couch & do a bit of biking & to find hidden bits of Ireland."

Club runs could be arround the places as bikers want the same as ourselves... fun roads... Maybe even a spot on the forum where you could upload the photos of your car and place.... Could even generate a bit of competition amongst us to see who is uploading the different photo locations??????

Its only a thought but me and my other significant one are thinking of having a go off it any way next year for the laugh...... As I said the lads at work have had a blast getting to these spots and the motivation to do so.......

The new locations are not out until next Feb, enough time to generate a bit of interest in the club....

Go on you know you want to.... Hey we could even crash the bikers presentation next year??????

Good idea Warren, if the time is right i would say a run could be organised. Keep us posted.

Hi Fobbzy, sounds like a great idea, why dont we run a similar competition for all mx5 club members north and south held over say a six month period would get us all out and about all over this island,
what do you think would it run?

As a motorcyclist who has done this event for a couple of years 08/09/10 I can tell you that no MX5 owner will want to go to some of those locations,up mountain tracks ,across fields and to really tricky spots. Even on a road bike I wasn't happy with several locations. The idea is great though, but bear in mind there is a big mileage involved , and with the price of pertol etc I didn't bother this year.
It would be very easy to do an MX5 one though. All it would take is a member from each county to come up with an esoteric or historic and photogenic spot that they know is appropriate and get the lat/long. No need for expensive recces.

"by 'the Spire' : 10 points"
"outside Fr Ted's house : 10 points"
"on the back of a Garda removal truck : 200 points"
"sideways outside the Dail : 1000 points"
"at the cross @ Spancil hill with at least 2 blondes on the bonnet : 4 pints"

Sounds good, especially Steve's suggestion. I'll give the Dail one a shot next time I'm in Dublin... maybe.
