Hi ya'll,
my belts seem to be losing their tension, becoming loose, is there a quick fix somewhere or do I have to replace?

seat belt tension issuesHi ya'll,
my belts seem to be losing their tension, becoming loose, is there a quick fix somewhere or do I have to replace? ta, bingus666
Will they still lock up on a sudden forward movement? If not then change them. I'm not sure that the tension is adjustable.
From a manual I have: Warning! Once removed, the seatbelt mechanism must not be dismantled or interfered with-if there is a fault in the inertia reel mechanism or if the belt webbing is frayed or cut, a new seatbelt must be installed. Check that the reel mechanism locks if the belt is pulled out quickly, or when the mechanism is inclined at 30 degrees or more from the vertical. If not, fit a new belt. Hope this is of some use John
do you mean that they go loose as you drive ie slacken off (and then when you turn the key off in the ignition they tighten a small bit agian). if so this i think is a common fault on mx5s and there isn't really a quick fix. John c has a c lock (or something like that) might be worth asking him about.

that's grand, cheers lads - yes they still lock but slacken over driving then tighten when car turned off or if I pull the belt out a bit & let it tighten up again - but I cant be doing this all the time, looks like new belts then...
mine are the exact same, when i get in the car there loose, One quick pull out and they return back nice and tight! Isn't this the same on all Mk1's?
Yeah same on all of them as far as i know. Certainly on mine, just don't let it bother me. I'm not sure but a new belt might not solve your problem.
This is what i was on about http://www.cg-lock.co.uk/ I think john c has one but not 100% sure just have a feeling i saw one in his car during the weekend. Ash http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
CG lockYes I have one of those . It tightens up the lap belt nicely...really makes a big difference on the twisties .
Can recommend it, pulls you tightly into your seat.....or you can just have it in 'normal position', whichever suits. Regards John.
Seat belts LoosenI am sure I read somewhere that the Eunos belts are supposed to do what seems like a fault: a little motor(!) loosens the belts to improve driver comfort. I will check to see if I can confirm. This would be the opposite of pre-tensioners ie post-looseners.

It is true. Some models have seat belt relaxers. They can be disabled according to Miata.net by removing a 10 amp fuse from the footwell fuse box. Seems like a very cheap "cure" if your belts are still locking appropriately and would pass NCT. John C
