First timer

Postby Wannabe » Thu, 16 Aug 2012 6:38 +0000

I have decided that I want to buy an MX5. Already have two 'sensible' newer cars and fancy something a little fun. Have been looking around at various options and admit to be a bit confused by how these cars are priced, huge price differentials between what seem to be very similar cars, and wondering whether best to buy from a dealer, privately, or import from the UK, plus any other dos and don't of MX5 purchase, or what should be looked out for, and what the actual going rate is for one of these in decent condition. Basically, I don't want to end up with a lemon for my money. It will never be a daily driver, but would perhaps have to cope with the occasional 200km round trip. Budget is negotiable for the right car, but I don't want to go too crazy, as can't really justify that for a third car, so ideally looking at models between 2002 and 2005 or near it.

All and any advice welcome . Based in Galway :)

I would recommend that you try out as many different mx5's as possible, and bring someone along who's familiar with them..there's several in the Galway area! ( owners that is). Also, don't be too quick to dismiss the older mk1 models ( 1990 to 98 I think), there are some fine specimens out there and the jap imports are known as the better option..loads of discussion on this elsewhere..

Happy hunting!

John ( a different one) :D

Will you be along to the C&C on Sunday? There should be a few there to have a look at.
