No idea on the Tesco stuff but keep an eye on Halfords, they have Castrol Magnatec 10w40 on offer for 20e every so often.

*edit*
as luck would have it :

I might be wrong on this but as far as I know the Mazda runs on 10w40. 5w30 is for more modern petrol and diesel engines.

5w30 and 10w40, they both work. You will find Mazda recommending 5w30 for the Mx-5 in some owners manuals, while a lot of Mazda dealerships use 10w40 for oil changes.

Edit: 5w30 has a lower temperature range, so better for colder climates. 10w40 can take hotter temperature ranges. Since we are in Ireland with a small range, never under +10, never over +30 C, it seems to come down to preference.

I cleaned out the local Tesco down here in Killarney too........
A while back they had 1L bottles of Tesco 20w50 for €1 - yes, that's right! €1!!
I cleaned that out too, and did the Douglas shop also, my old British bikes just love that stuff!! Being a little thicker, it doesn't leak with the same vigour either!
