I had an engine light coming on in one of the other cars, had the codes read a few times as I tried to narrow down the cause (now fixed, details here if you are interested).
This got me researching code readers and where to get one that a) fit my model and b) didn't cost several hundred (I don't plan on having THAT many error codes).
Long story shot, I picked up a bluetooth OBD2 dongle (ELM 327) on ebay and installed the Torque app on my phone via the Play store (see someones demo vid here).
Screenshot from my phone :
You just plug it into the car, connect via bluetooth with your phone and start the App. Then add whatever gauges/graphs you want to the screens.
It'll also read and reset current/historical error codes and provides data logging (!)
I gave it a whirl on our diesel, it was much slower to respond although I see there is/will be a diesel version.
I'll bring it along to the next run/C&C if someone wants to have a look/play with their '5 (assuming you have an OBD2 ecu ).
