Thoughts?..he looks better with the bag on his head.......
Seriously, we all know that the mx5 is not a supercar, but the 5 is FUN and reasonably inexpensive...end of!!

I think he's confusing a positive ownership experience, as expressed on the internet, with hype.

And the 205 comparision is way off. Show me a €2k 205 GTi that costs as little as an NA '5 to run. (Harris has a 205 XS in his collection apparaently)

A lot of his points are valid. Stock, it's not very pointy, not very quick, and not as exciting as say, an Elise. However, a few tweaks (and not the "heavy modifications" he mentions) can sort this out. No mention made of the benefits of a correct geo setup.

I've yet to find a car that does as much as a 5 can, for similar money (though a track prepped 944 caught my eye on CZ this week… :D)

who ?? plus who cares ... hes reviewing a car thats designed 23 years ago ...if the motoring industry was interested in his views they would have asked him for his views in 1989.
Thank christ they werent interested otherwise mazda would have called it a day there and then and we wouldnt have them now....

Just another Clarkson wannabe... yawn

**plus if he was any good as a motoring journalist he would be reviewing brand new cars...not really old cars that have been reviewed time and time again**

Actually, he's a pretty well known motoring writer, contributing to evo, Top Gear amongst others over the years. This mx5 review is more of an exception to the norm, usually it's new cars he reviews.

He's a very well respected motoring journalist, but you have to remember he’s used to reviewing Zonda’s and the like so an MX 5 would seem a little tame to him.

Anyway it doesn’t matter what he thinks, people voted with their wallets and bought them by the thousands, which is great as now there’s plenty of choice for us on the used market.

sorry but Top Gear mag is shite and EVO not much better. If he wrote for CAR or Autocar/Motor i might agree.
The Elise is in a totally different price bracket and mid engined .
Lets see what the new one behaves like. Bet if it had an Alfa badge on it he would love it.
