I did bits and pieces today on the mx5, and i found this under the tray, between the gearbox and the armrest. Whats this for? Its only on, when the lights are on...

i'd say its a light, they help you see stuff in the dark :-)

The light is under the tray. Normally not visible. So its no use... I have the car for 2,5 years, and just spotted now. I was wondering whats the point...

The standard ashtray had a little green lens type thing that the light would shine through, giving some idea of where to flick the ash off the cigarette
