Problems with alarm?

Postby mx5ideways » Tue, 06 Aug 2013 5:43 +0000

Has anyone ever had any problems with their Mazda factory fitted alarms? I have one in my mx2 Rs, it used to go off by itself in the very cold weather so thought that was the problem, had improved recently but still happens once or twice, it's going off all the time now  as soon as I lock it with the button and come into the house it starts going off (everything is closed fully)

mk2 jap imports dont have factory fitted security, so its probably an aftermarket alarm

if you have a prox sensor / dual stage microwave try decreasing the sensitivity ( usually under the centre console)

Unless it was fitted in a Mazda dealer here or something, I have a Mazda installation certificate that says the system installed was a mazdaguard 3998 alarm (cobra 3998), theirs a note at the bottom of the certificate saying a "cobra 3998 becomes a thatcham category 1 security system when installed onto a vehicle equipped with the Mazda thatcham category 2 transponder immobilliser or touch key immobilliser installed as standard equipmant, please consult your Mazda dealer for further details"

I'm not exactly sure, if there's a microwave or ultrasonic unit, it's usually inside the centre console and the proximity and density of the coins to the sensor makes it easier for them to set the alarm off, they can also rattle a bit too if a truck passes or something.
