Car stolen, help!

Postby scuzzbat » Wed, 11 Sep 2013 12:41 +0000

Hey, My Mk1 Eunos was lifted on Synge street on Sunday. It was recovered with a ripped hood and it was also hotwired. I'm debating going through my insurance but if they think it's not economic to repair they'll scrap the thing. How much could the repairs etc cost me and does anyone know what the insurance book price is on a Mk1 Mx5?

I'm going to see it tonight. I'm reluctant to scrap it, especially if the bastards will offer me €800 when they say "It's an old car" when the market value is easily 2k.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear that, but don't despair....Chances are they'll write the car off, and your estimate of market value is probably a bit high....See what they offer you and look to hold onto the car as part of the deal, then you can repair the car or buy another one for around a grand and marry the two of them. Parts?? No problem for most items as you'll see from a lot of posts here.
Keep the faith!!

gah sorry to hear it!
Yeah, as John says, see if they'll do a claim/buy back deal.

Thanks guys I'll ask about the buy back possibility. It was in great condition. Pain in the ass. Anyone have any sort of estimate on how much the insurance company's list price on a Mk1 is??

The insurance company are going to let me hold on to it provided I send them on pics of the damage so they can rate the category of write-off.

He says it'll be a C or D which means they give me a few bob minus the scrappage amount or something, so happy days.

Thanks

As per phone call we have most of what parts you will need .But bear in mind insurance pay for new parts so you need to ask for say 1k .Dont sell yourself too cheaply in case something else is wrong ie clutch burned otu or similar !!!

I'll post pics when I get in but from what I can tell now I need an ignition lock and switch and the back window. Worried about the starter motor but I'll have to see. Thanks for the help lads.

Here's the damage, the garda told me to point at the damage, hence the greasy paw in all the pictures.

Nope, it was rather easy for them if I'm to be honest. Getting the security beefed up while it's being repaired, kill switch, alarm and a big steering lock. They're just too easy to rob.

Apparently a paper-clip is all you need if there's no other security device fitted!!

My car was nearly stolen last Christmas, they got about 20 feet before the cops came and they hadn't manages to start it, luckily I had an immobiliser. Got a new ignition barrel and plastic surround from Robert, along with the wee fly window. Has 2 keys now, one for doors and one for the engine but its grand.
Shear bolts for the ignition are a pain to remove and you need to be sure that they're right before you reinstall them. Get land rover ones too, they're cheaper(same dealership too in dublin).
Since then I've gotten a steering lock big yellow thing which is a good visual deterrent. I disconnect the battery too if I'm away for a while

Mine was stolen in April, I kept the car and the insurance company gave me €800. Went up to Robert and got everything I needed (right down to a new engine), gentleman to deal with
