Da! Da! Great car, car great but.......fail NCT!

Postby valred » Thu, 12 Jun 2008 4:59 +0000

Hey there Ladybirds and Gentlebugs,

Put my little lizard in the NCT.........had Peter the Pole doing the test and he spent only 17 minutes on the car...........

Met him in the office smiling........but told me my headlight beam is 'out of range' and hence a fail (used to be fail advisory). Combined with my drivers window motor shot this was a fail.

But......considering I didn't get it checked I am thrilled to know it is only a matter of getting the angle of light adjusted. (and motor for window)

so..........

popped into Mazda garage on the way home.........60euro later they told me that no, I would have to get new headlamps and a new motor....total cost approx 700 before labour!!!

Fell around the place laughing!!

So my question is.....I have bought a window motor kit for around 60euro from ebay and can seemingly get two headlamps from mx5parts for approx the same.........am I right?

Am I missing out on something.....connector/surround thing.....anything else?

Happy days, get the parts and fit and I will get my cert for the princely sum of 27.50 euro!

ta all.

No that should be right for the lights. Got them myself very easy to fit.
The window is normally just the cable not the whole motor.

hi Ivan,

Cannot believe (well, no, no I can!) that the Mazda garage wanted 400 odd for 60euro headlamps!!

Anyway,
it is the regulator that is gone on the drivers window....is that the same as the motor or the whole shebang?

Hi Val,

Sorry to hear your 'little lizard' didnt pass the NCT first time  thats a bummer alright, although thankfully wont cost a huge amount to get you sorted again. Those Main Dealers are r*p off merchants and steer clear if at all possible !!!!!

Chances are its just the window cable thats snapped, get both cables replaced.(1 long and 1 short cable). BTW were the electric windows working when you brought the car recently ???

Finally are you around for the Terenure car show July 6th...which is a good day out and a good place to show off the 'green lizard'

Good luck with the mods,

Regards John.

Ya I would have thought you just need to get the (dip) alignment checked again....although may need to get it done with the calibrated equipment??

Do you know were your readings too high/low or not aligned in general?

I did have a set of lights there were by all accounts never going to be alignment properly. They were halo lights from us though. Anyway good luck with it what ever you decide.

Hi John and Ash,

Mazda men tried alignment but they just wouldn't...align!!

Have ordered the Eunos halogen lights from mx5parts now as mine are the inbuilt/surround types so HOPEFULLY this will work.

I will fit them and the motor and bring it to a pre.nct centre to check the alignment and pop it back in for the recheck.

Considering I have being driving the bejaysus out of it (and its age, and it is imported etc etc) I thought they would find some fault with the bushes or tracking or something but, mechanically, it is da bomb!!!

Eddie lives to race the roads of Ireland!!!!!

No you can't. There is not the right pattern on the lens
so it won't give a clear reading. Thats what was wrong with mine.

How do they know it's the regulator? did they take it out and test it?

Does this mean I should NOT order the Eunos compatible lens (covered/sealed ones) from mx5parts?

thanks again!

Star bar! thats the ones I changed to ok.....yippee!!

Thanks so much Ivan!

Midlife.............I would never be bitter towards anyone passing the NCT....isnt it funny all the car owners watching their little babies going through the test!!???? Is that a good sign? No, no he is revving too hard...oh he is spending too long on that wheel!!!

ah well, I had a slight giggle at the poor souls waiting for their driving tests while Eddie was being examined....would rather get a few new headlamps than do that again...again!!!

Go LRC!!!!!! :)
