Ah f*ck no....that's maddening altogether.
I have smaller oval type spot lamp in similar position, but have them on separate switch and relay.
Never were an issue on my 91 car, is this something new for 93 cars or what.

Poor service and sales follow up from mx5parts....I'm surprised about that.
I always bring my mx5 to a smaller county town NCT centre, rather than main city one.!!!!

Good luck
John.

If there was a photo of the month competition I’d say that might win, nice to have no worries now, any issues getting it passed? Do you know if they used the rollers when checking the brakes ?

My 91 mx5 Roadster passed the NCT again today. Happy days... :) :D

It now has 152000 Kms on the clock. Although rear pads need changing now.
Although I did notice I only did 1700kms since the last NCT.

Perhaps there might be a run this year if the weather plays ball.

There have been a few people on here looking for Mk1's in recent months. Interest seems to be growing in them again.

I came very close to putting mine up for sale a few months back. But the voices in my head persuaded me otherwise !

My 08 MX ( Irish ) failed the NCT this avo with a FAILED DANGEROUS sticker on the windscreen BECAUSE and let this be a warning .. Tyre Thread depth below the min even though mechanic said it was OK. Seems before hand ( pre nct test ) to be arbitrary somehow in that one mechanic will say its OK another, its not.

Luckily I had the AA so they collected my MX within half an hour and we dropped it at mechanic. One lousy tyre ended up doing this.

So the learned lesson .. before next NCT next year to a tyre garage and get them to properly measure depth, this each time for NCTs going forward.

It also failed on the back disc / pads not connecting properly at back of disc. New disc I assume and possibly calipers? Any thoughts on that and where to get OR is this an arm and a leg thing?

I also had interesting time with NCT centre when asking after Qs about this FAILED DANGEROUS sticker .. they do not seem to have been trained properly with responses and the extra sheet with "warnings" you get was just as vague about driving the car with the FAILED DANGEROUS sticker or not. Stuff like - the Garda MIGHT BE informed if you leave the centre. I asked and got equally vague answers rather than explicit ones which they should be. Is the law around this shaky I wonder?

BTW if you have a FAILED DANGEROUS sticker on your windscreen and you even drive it to a nearby tyre centre from NCT - BEWARE ... if you have a tip on the way your insurance is apparently void. And if caught by cops you are looking at alot more than points .. court date and hefty fine of 4 or 5 grand

hmmm... if it was so close that your mechanic thought they were fine, that's a bit much. I'm a more suprised you didn't get the sticker for defective rear brakes.

Re rear brakes, not sure why they aren't without seeing them but it kinda sounds like a rusted piston in the caliper or similar.
I find these guys great for MX5 brakes : https://brakeparts.co.uk/shop/Mazda/MX5 ... 0Roadster/

Steve, got a Major defect for the disc issue .. is this common?

I dont have the NCT papers with me at the moment to outline the exact failure, in the car with the mechanic ..

As with many MX5s in my past I notice the sticking caliper on back wheel now and then .. seems to be common?

Sivitec Tyre Tread Gauge 1 - 25mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DFKT50S/ ... eEbPFMH61C

It's not too difficult to check the tyre condition yourself but your mechanic should be able to sort the brakes very easily, Steve gave you a very good link to the parts and the prices, even replacing everything on both sides shouldn't be too expensive

Discs and pads are handy enough to do and cheap also. You can do this yourself but you do need a certain amount of tooling to make life easy. I put two reconditioned calipers on mine a few years back and again I thing they were quite reasonable. Well worth the investment as you’ll get ten years plus out of them again.
