These were the only offerings I could find at the Swords Classic Car show yesterday. All 3 were very well presented. Both mk1's we're automatics.

Re: Swords classic car showGreat show I’d say, looking at the different registration plates on the two red cars I think the long plate looks better . Silver on looks like it has a tonneau cover, don’t see many of those around
Re: Swords classic car showYeah, out of the red ones, the longer plate does look a bit nicer there alright. Good to see them out and about !

Re: Swords classic car showThey all had tonneau covers in place, and looked well inside.
To be honest, I wouldn't go back to the show. Overall I found it a disappointment. There were definitely some nice cars on show.... but not too many. Quite a few we're shabby, and some of the stuff for sale inside were just 'meh'. I appreciate some were old cars, but the overall impression was of poorly presented, poor paint jobs, rust bubbles, (and some with holes in the body work) etc. And not necessarily priced to reflect that. And talking of 'old' - as in classic - forgive me (and I feel bad saying this) but a 2005 MK2 MX5 hardly falls into the classic category (in my book anyway!). Classic? In fact the pre- show blurb said cars on display were to be pre-1989 (fair enough). Maybe they didn't get enough interest. Also, I arrived at 12.30 (show started at 11) and already some of the show cars were leaving the display area (and by 4 the place was nearly deserted). There was a nice 60's mini (but too expensive for me), a gorgeous Opel Kadet coupe, and an old Fiat (offered at around 15,000e, which had 'SOLD' on as I was leaving. Oh, and there was a nice green Volvo (1984) GL 760 with history and about 55000miles, that really caught my eye..... I know, what was I thinking!!!! It looked to be in really good shape. OK - realise that was a bit of a rant. Apologies!
Re: Swords classic car show
In the market for another classic, are we ?! 1992 Eunos Roadster BRG V-Spec 1.6
Re: Swords classic car showIt has crossed my mind! I'm not against the idea. I enjoyed looking round the 'for sale' section at the show.. ..... and dreaming!!! (which I think some of the sellers were doing too, with the prices/condition of some of the cars on offer). Nothing specific in mind - just seeing what's out there.
Re: Swords classic car show
I have noticed that with many "classics" - the some the prices are gone just plain daft. Even some of the stuff in the classic section of Donedeal is way over priced in my opinion. It's like just because it is old then it's worth a fortune ! 1992 Eunos Roadster BRG V-Spec 1.6
Re: Swords classic car showHi, I too having been going to that show for 5/6 years and every year it gets worse. Some crap for sale there, badly presented, rusty pieces of crap. Seen mk2 Escort RS2000 with overnight spray job but it was the worse looking paint job and epair I have ever seen. Fillers , not even sanded down and heavy coat shiny paint over it. Absolute dirt for 10k. Not even worth that as project car , strip down etc. Disgrace even to try to sell it.Every Ford lad at the show was laughing at 10k for it. Scrap. You could see all the fillers easily through the paint .Real good ones are 30k but this was 5k max car. Breaker really.
I was also interested in NI lad selling 77 kadett coupe, honest car, needing work, unused for 10/12 years but could,nt stretch to 4k sterling. Now on Donedeal. Overall show was disappointing , as usual. Last year I went there with my Mk1 Mondeo 2.5 Jap import but they would not let me in. Said it was too new , fair enough, but 95 merc got in as they said it was Mercedes.......Feck that shit....Unfair Overall shit show, Staff unhelpful and not worth going again.Although I probably will go again
Re: Swords classic car showThats really interesting.I was mad to try and get there this year but just couldnt with lots of other stuff. I was wondering if thats what its like. It sounds like a mobile done deal - not knocking it , Ive used it plenty f times but jesus wept its like a work of fiction at times. Angela Landsbury would be proud.
If I see another ad for a W124 with classic stuck in it and its going to 'make more monry for the owner' I dont know. It is a joke the way cars are priced when lads think 'classic' . I see plenty of 'no not crashed and certainly not repaired' cars everyday. It would break your heart. Honest to god it amazes me what lads will try and sell. I laughed when i read the Gl 760. I looked at one of those. Copped on and forgot about it!!!!!! Nostalgia made me look !!! I am just waiting on delivery of my new daily driver. Got a Mk3 2.0 6 sp. Its old sensible lad car but I want an MX5 for my work trip when I can for the motorway.
Re: Swords classic car showGotta say, the above 2 posts pretty well sum up the show, and Len, that's a very good way of putting it 'a mobile donedeal'. Just because a car is old people think it's worth a fortune - regardless of condition. If some of the sellers were honest they could advertise their cars as coming with a free tub of isopon, already fitted.
I certainly won't be back. Which is a pity. What other shows do folk go to, that they'd recommend? I've never been to the Terenure or Kilbroney shows..... are they worth the trip?
Re: Swords classic car showI was at Kilbroney a while back, great show.
Also went to Mountbellew a few times, its more of a vintage "anything" show (which I find great for a wander), not a huge amount of cars but great selection. https://www.facebook.com/pg/Mountbellew ... e_internal
Re: Swords classic car showKilbroney is the way to go. Excellant show, lovely setting and lots to do incl music , food etc. Maybe 2000 items on show incl few old motorbikes, tractors but 90% cars. Get B7B and stay over for 1 night and the pubs are bit craic also. There is even a "shibeen" ?? thats opens 7pm only to 11pm. Basically old bar that has not changed for 100 years. No food and lucky to have inside toilet area.Apparently the toilets were out the back in shed. Sounds like my kind of place....
