Pics of the first round of filler, the rust isn't bad really but it would be much worse if left for another winter

![]() Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryAll treated and filled now, used fiberglass filler as it's supposed to be a bit better where rust is involved, a couple of coats of Lowe direct to rust primer applied by brush which will be left for a couple of days then will be sanded back and then given a couple of coats of 2pack primer before painting

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryAll the filler and first coats of primer sanded back
![]() Wet sanded both sides, filler/primer sanded with 180 and around the 180 was done dry with the red sanding cloth which is equivalent to 400 paper and then the rest wet sanded with 600 grit. Black high build primer applied, had just enough for 3 coats, ![]() next will be to flat all of it again with the 600 paper and hopefully get it painted tomorrow Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryHi Ray, some threads don't appear on the recent for some reason, I like the merc but the mx5 is much more enjoyable.
Any news on the spitfire?
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryAll rubbed down now, it's almost ready for paint but it's fairly crap weather with rain so I might leave the painting till the weather improves
![]() ![]() Still have to cover the shed with plastic sheets and mask over the rest of the car Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryReady now, hope to get it painted tomorrow

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryHi Pops, the Spitfire progress is very slow. I'm not happy with where I'm storing it so I have not started work on the body. I'm working backwards really, i have the engine tottaly stripped apart, cleaned and painted. Just need to buy a few parts like pistons, bearings etc. to put it back together. I'm hoping that next year I'll be able to bring it into work where its dry and I'll have access to electricity.

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryWell done, even working backwards is still progress, I've seen them on done deal every so often and they seem to be making decent money
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryPainting done
The good side ![]() ![]() The not so good side ![]() A massive run, almost half the length of the door. There's as good as 4 coats of lacquer on it so should be able to sand the run out, it is going to need flatting and Polishing anyway Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryThis is the lacquer I used, supposedly its designed to be more for the DIY side of painting so no need for a spray booth, going to leave it for a week or so before sanding and Polishing, we'll know what it's like then.
No real fumes of it compared to other lacquers ![]() Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryThe bonnet was looking a bit poor compared to the freshly painted sides, it has a couple of rust spots on the front edge, I thought a good session with the polisher and a touch up by brush on the rusty bits would do. As always, a small job turns out to be anything but.
Bonnet, after thinking I'd only do the front edge ![]() Applied some rust treatment and will leave it till next week Used a blade to scrape the worst parts of the runs, intention is to try sanding them back and polish them up before I paint the bonnet, that way if the Polishing doesn't work I can re do the door at the same time ![]() ![]() Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territorySpent a few hours sanding the passenger side to try removing the runs and reduce some of the orange peel, started with 800 grit and ended with 3000 grit, next will be compound and polish, looks like I won't need to repaint it thankfully
Shine has returned after 3000 grit even without Polishing You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryFew pics of doing the bonnet
Rubbing down the black hi build primer Lots of dirt on it unfortunately. I think the spray gun has had its day, if I'm painting anything else I'll have to get a new one, this one had problems spraying without thinning the lacquer which I didn't want to do so it's pretty heavy but there's enough on it to be able to sand back and polish the same as the sides You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
