How poor the sprayed finish is Fixing the massive run After a full day compounding both sides The next stage is to polish it but the paintwork on the bonnet turned out fairly poor with lots of dirt so I'll most likely have to spend a day sanding and compounding it then I'll be able to polish the whole car You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Knocked down the worst of them with 1200 grit Then it was wet sanded with 1500 and then 3000 Again a few hours compounding to get it acceptable Continued on with the compound and did the roof and bootlid You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryThe hopefully final job was to replace the heater controls bulbs, thanks to the world's best educator (google) I found that the bulbs are accessible by removing the knob instead of having to remove the full panel
Bulb hiding place Used a bent pointed nose pliers to pull the bulb out, thankfully it didn't break. Trying to fit the new bulb was a challenge, trying to keep the flap pressed back and hold the tiny bulb with the pliers was as good as impossible. But there's always a way, s piece of heat shrink done the trick Small screwdriver placed through it on the bulb to keep it in place while pulling back the heat shrink did the job You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryDone the hopefully final bit of work on this, replaced four blown dash bulbs, a pain to get the instrument panel out, would have been helpful if the steering column was adjustable but it isn't so to make it possible I had to remove the steering wheel, the challenge then was to find replacement bulbs, tried five different motor factors with no success, finally got them in halfords of all places
As this was the first time I've disconnected the battery I decided to do something about the battery tray This was removed from underneath the tray with a magnet Rust converter and a coat of paint will have to do for now So that seems to be the end of repairs to the German but the final kick in the arse was that within the first hour of being out of the shed one of the neighbours hit it with a golf ball, it's only a tiny ding but annoying at the time You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryIt's never finished, bas/esp light staying on, scanner shows faulty brake light switch and steering angle sensor, switch is a common fault and as it only cost €10 so I replaced it first, success, light gone off____for 5min,so back to the steering sensor next

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryoh... I had this in the past too, did you reset your steering angle after having the battery disconnected? After lots of research I discovered you could do it by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock both ways.
Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryForgot about it Steve, I couldn't reset the steering angle sensor no mater what I did, a test with a better diagnostic tool found a faulty lateral acceleration sensor, got a used one for 15 pounds on eBay which solved the problem, this diagnostic tool found other problems though, there's a missfire counter and it shows misses on cyl 4, not registering enough yet to log a fault code, I've tried moving the coil to cyl 1 and the plug to cyl 2 with no difference to the missfire count, further investigation when the weather improves will be to check for a vacuum leak and swap injectors around and maybe a compression test, not too bothered about it for the time being as it drives grand

Re: A German is trying to invade my Japanese territoryDoing the vacuum test now, 3 leaks found so far, one major one was because some idiot (me) never reconnected a breather pipe on the air box, small one at what I think may be a vacuum regulator and another at the airflow meter, got to fix all these and go from there
