You could spray them yes, they will chip. I wouldn't bother buying a new set of alloys just to spray them. Also if i was you then i would be looking for something lightweight. You will notice the difference (in a bad way) going from bbs to them.
You not keen on any of the rotas?

Hi Ollie, check Halfords. That's where I got my 17" from. They've got great deals all the time on Ripspeed.
Just click 15", 17" or 18" on this page to get an idea.
I reccomend what I have (17" with low profile). don't think our arches will swollow a 18" wheel + tyre.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categorydisplay_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_55061_langId_-1_topCategoryId__parentcategoryrn_55061_crumb_33967-55061_topcategory_55061

If you can get to a store, they've got more there and always great deals.
I got mine for € 580.00 all in (wheels + silverstone High performance tyres)

Or... you could golden chrome them

Here's a better view of the chroming process itself, easier than spray painting.

One of the stages is just water and air dried afterwards.
