difference between eunos & mx5

Can we work up a list of the parts that differ between an Irish mx5 and a jap import.

Very few as far as I can see.

1. ECU minor difference results in 118bhp vs. 115bhp for the Irish model.

Anyone add to the list

Mazda keeps looking for a chassis no. and then say they have to call Japan even though you may tell them the part is common from 89-97 or 89-93 and so on.

Is there something we can do to resolve the chassis no issue for jap imports?

heres a list from the old uk mailing list archives

3.Thinner windscreen, I had to buy a new seal when replacing mine.
4.Limited to 180 kph /112mph .. (before you remove the screw in the cluster )
5.No rear fog light
6.Sealed beam headlights
7.Red reflectors
8.Rear numberplate surround is square
9.Catalytic converter overheat warning light in dash
10.Hole in Cat for overheat warning sensor
11.Roadsters not fitted with a hard top were not supplied with 'Frankenstein'
bolts.
12.The side hard top mounts were not fitted to Roadsters unless a
hard top was fitted in production.
13.Fuel filler restrictor not fitted to Roadsters. Not that you'll find leaded petrol anywhere too often
14.Instrument panel warning lights on Roadsters include one for seat belt not fastened - and there's a buzzer for seat belt not fastened.
15.MX5's have a hazard flasher warning light and a 'rear fog light on' warning on the instrument panel
16.Double DIN radio was fitted to Roadsters
17.Automatic gearbox is available on Roadsters. There are a lot of specification differences with automatics - radiator, camshafts, etc are different, apart from the gearbox.
18.In 1994, a bigger (1.8 litre) engine was fitted. UK versions of this have EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) fitted. Roadster versions do not.

Yours might be dis-connected, do you have a seat belt buzzer....

The connectors are under the driving seat.

when I posed the question, I was more thinking about parts you would want to buy from Mazda. Not all the minor or cosmetic differences.

For example when I wanted a rear crank shaft oil seal Mazda seemed to be under the impression that this may be different on imports and wanted to contact Japan.

So the list I was thinking about was more along the lines of serviceable parts.
Lets say a memo to Mazda parts depts saying "all service parts common 89-93 except for..." and so on.

or a default list of Irish chassis no's according to the various models that could be used when someone calls with an import parts request.

You were right ok. It will take 3 months for an answer from Mazda. The same time that is automatically given when you mention an import when ordering parts from them.
