Bonnet lifters

Postby Reesy » Fri, 03 Aug 2007 8:36 +0000

Hi guys,

Following the fitting of my Jackson Racing Cold Air Induction kit, I bought hood lifters on Ebay to replace the bonnet prop. However the instructions are dreadful - the photos are very poor, and so I need to drill but I don't know where! Did anyone else but INXX hood lifters & if so, can they send me pics or even instructions?

Tks guys

Hi simon, Mx5 parts sell bonnet lifters but im not sure if thay are the same ones you have. Any way they have kindly set up a page of instructions here

finally got round to fitting the lifters i got. it was actually easier than i thought it was going to be.
Few pics for anyone else wanting to do the same

Measure the point you are going to drill, 32mm back and 8mm down from the top of the hinge
Image

drill with a 5mm drill bit
Image

tap with a 6mm tap
Image

mark bonnet hinges and remove 2x 14mm bolts(i did the whole thing one side at a time and kept the bonnet supported)
Image

screw ball joint (the shorter of the two) into the hole that you have just tapped and secure the other side with the nut
Image

refit hinge to the bonnet making sure that you line it back up properly
Image

remove 10mm bolt from the wing and replace with the second ball joint (the one with the longer threads)
Image

fix your lifters and your done.

Ah great, thanks Ash. I'll work thru both sets of instructions in detail before I take up a drill!
