btw, its only moving forward when in gear as the starter motor is turning the flywheel.

a vid of the place its emptying water from might help too..

If its from the
bottom-ish front of the engine block, prob water pump
back of the engine, prob heat hoses

blown engine

Postby fire999 » Wed, 04 Feb 2009 12:00 +0000

hi guys,
the spark plugs look ok they were put in 2 days before the engine went, i cant find where the water is going and now my battery is flat now so it will be tomorrow before i try again, if it makes sense i think its going out the exhaust as steam cause when i got it started on a tow and drove it round the block a couple of times white smoke billowed out the exhaust, the oil level is fine? a friend that knows more than me "which isnt much" said the compression is excaping into the coolant bottle thats why its bubbling, yea meathmazdaman had an engine he thinks will solve my prob waiting on a price, i was on to ivi twice but no luck, the crowd on ebay have an exact match with 37000 miles on it mine had 64000 kilometers at £950 its pricey but with over 6000 sales and not one neg feed i think i trust them to tell the truth, when i get this sorted im going to cheer myself up by buying lether seats for my big ass maybe heated
thanks guys for your help this is a great place

Interesting.

So the water is not on the floor under the engine? As the system takes about 5 litres of water and you’re saying it goes very quickly it must be a major leak.
If the header tank is being pressurised but the oil looks ok, it suggest you have a head gasket failure between the water gallery and cylinder.

I guess other possibilities could be a cracked head but I don't think I have ever heard on these engines doing this.

If what you have diagnosed is correct, you are looking at a leak between the tear drop shaped ports and the cylinder. That's quite impressive water injection!

blown engine

Postby fire999 » Wed, 04 Feb 2009 4:55 +0000

hi guys
ive just got this reply from ebay when i asked has a compression thest been done is this good
Hi Damien, yes, we've done a dry compression test so readings are generally a bit pessimistic. Results are 185, 180, 185, 200 on 1-4 respectively. Regards, Andrew
battery is almost charged and it hasnt been raining so the ground is dry maybe ill get to the bottom "ha ha the bottom" of where the water is leaking im going to put the camera under the engine and see what happens?

thanks

Hi fire999.
I reckon your head gasket is probally gone but one sure way to check is take the radiator cap off and if your coolant starts to spurt out its telling you have leak into the cylinder/s and the compression is causing it to expell out the radiator/expansion bottle.
Engine is not siezed and may only need head gasket replacing.
Hope this helps

Dave.

+1

before you buy a new engine.. take the head off your current one (nothing to loose eh? ;-) ) You might find its easier than you think (you can get the manuals on ebay) and learn lots in the process ;-)

If you do remove the head, and there is no reason not to if you are going to the expense of a new engine, my experience is don't mess around with none Mazda gaskets for both the cylinder head and cam cover. Mazda ones cost, but they do work. I have spent days trying to find problems that cone down to crappy none OEM gaskets.
