Shit Robin sorry top hear about your car. Is it me or does there seem to be far to many cars getting stolen/damaged these days. Hilly you had a midget as well. I have one of them. Sadly it is at my parents in the uk rusting away. One of these days i am going to bring it over and restore it though. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
nice midget Ash, pity not to restore, nice in white mine was BRG. I sold her to finance my 5. Did not get anywhere near what I had put into her but I enjoyed doing it and I think she has gone to a good home. Mine was in a far worse state when I started to restore her.
That pic was taken back in the good old days.
No longer looks like that - mechanically it is fine but needs a complete reshell now. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
   roofs and stuffHi Guys,
Also new to this site although have "lurked" for a bit without saying anything.... Dublin based, silver 99 1.6 since Oct last year. Not sure I am putting this in the right forum / thread.... Last night, roof was ripped and radio fascia and sunglasses taken. Also ripped out a sat nav charger cable I had wired in... Doh! why? Fascia no use and neither is ripped / broken charge cable. And they broke the sunglasses (Raybans) cos the broken lens was on the ground... I suppose I am lucky they didn't do more damage.... Anyway, biggest annoyance is the ripped roof. Any suggestions? repair? replace? Will my insurance cover it? I'm just so angry.... Any suggestions welcome. Thanks John

That sucks hard! Repairs are seldom as good as new, but obviously it depends on how much damage and what codition the rest of the hood is in anyway. Also how likely is it to happen again? Personally I would go for a new roof, it it was the original it is likely you would be needing one anyway. In the UK I have had hoods fitted for £120 and also fitted one myself, but I would guess around €300 would be about right. Mazda on Track. Motorsport for Mazdas
Jeez Cloggy & John, thats nasty about your roofs. Bastids! Last edited by Steve on Sat, 07 Feb 2009 1:14 +0000, edited 1 time in total.

Welcome John, great name by the way Sorry to hear about your bad luck, seems to be a bit of a spate of these robberies at the moment. Can I suggest to all members that maybe vigilance is lacking a little bit?? I know myself I'm guilty at times of this, not removing the facia from the stereo, leaving other removable objects in full view e.g. sat-nav,cd's, other belongings etc. I've even left the bloody keys in the ignition for three days before I realised where they were... now THAT'S asking for trouble!!! In the words of that bloke from Hill Street Blues.." Let's be careful out there" John

+ 1 massive increase in that kind of crime at the moment. been trying to stamp out my own bad habits too. If it can happen to cloggy in his quiet neck of the woods I reckon we're all open to it
   Lads,
Sorry to hear about your cars....that's such a shitty thing to happen. As mentioned earlier, this seems to be happening more and more....looks like the current "situation" is bringing all the low-lifes out. mrges
Fitted this hood last sunday (took me 4.5 hours, probably becasue it's the second one fitted in 4 months)
http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/159 WOW!!!! it's awasome and 100 times better than the genuine mazda hood. I'll show you with the next meeting. The material is seriously sturdy and all the required part (rivets, etc) are supplied with it. Truly magnificent. Cloggy FUN is never a straight line!

   soft top.... options?Hi all...
Posted in another thread about my break-in with ripped roof also.... Seriously shocked at Mazda main dealer quote of €960 +VAT for the roof and... wait for it.... €1400 for fitting (plus VAT of course...) Are they absolutely crazy!!!! (Guy said they are very difficult to fit, would take 2 days...) ('') Spoke to Raymond in Jack Smiths in Swansea. GBP260 for Mohair fitted. Seriously thinking of taking the boat over (€190 plus petrol) And might get leather seats while I'm at it. Would work out at approx €640 or so for seats and roof. Thats about half the price of a new roof fitted by carhoods. I reckon the whole thing could be done for around €900... No wonder we drive up north for the groceries.... Anyone had work done by Jack Smiths? Seems to get rave reviews on UK oc site.... just wondering if anyone here has used them? Or if anyone considering a trip over there soon? John (newbie in Dublin)
Yes, the guy in Swansea is meant to be good.
But if you would like to pay the Mazda prices I will come over personally and fit one for you and even take you to the pub afterwards, twice There is Mazmaina and JimParts as well Mazda on Track. Motorsport for Mazdas
