Bad VibrationsHave been using the 5 for last few weeks as main car got pranged (by my brother-in-law, while I was on hols). Anyway, this morning on way to work got woefull shudder, which felt like a puncture. Stopped, checked around & all ok with wheels/tyres. Resumed journey, only to have it start again after about 15 mins - seems to kick in only with accelaration and/or over 90kph.
Any suggestions (Leading to concern at sunday participation...
heh the "65mph shimmy"
Tyre pressures, Tyre balancing, Bracing helps (under gearbox, between seatbelt towers, between rear suspension), etc see here for more detail : http://www.miata.net/garage/65_mph.html
Hi,
I had the 60mph shimmy, caused by deformed tyres (it had been left standing for months B4 I bought it). However if you get it with acceleration below that speed, I'm thinking that it's perhaps not related to the tyres/wheels. Funny story - I found out about the shimmy when I was in the UK, and when I took the car into kwik-fit in Preston, the guy asked me, in his broad Lancashire accent "duthey not 'ave kwik-fit in Ireland, then?" Not the sharpest tools in the shed, some of these guys! Simon No more Mk1, now driving an '08 Mk3. Still fun!
Yeah suffering with that myself at the moment. it's feckin frustrating.
Must get the wheels balanced and see if that helps
Ahhhhhh, it must be true so ![]()
This one again....have not had the shaft sorted, but hoped the problem would disappear miraculously in the garage over the winter
So anyway, went for quick spin yesterday, and lo-and-behold but didn't the whole world start a shakin' & a-shudderin again after about 10-15 mins - accompanied by intermittent burning smell So headed back to base for inspection.... front right wheel almost white-hot!!! Methinks I have brake problems - minor eurica-moment (I'd had new discs fitted before this started happening but never made the connection).
Have now spoken about this with mechanic friend (who is also an MX owner)... sticky caliper or warped disk is the phone-diagnosis. Healthy/happy car is within sight....... bring on the outings!
