help please

Postby hillymx » Mon, 23 Mar 2009 9:25 +0000

Hi guys,
Could anybody out there spare some time to fit a new roof on my 5 in a week or two. I can offer a free very good condition mark 1 black tonneau cover to
the Knight in shining armour that comes to my rescue!! My husband has offered but I don't want to let him lose on it as I can only imagine the chaos etc not to mention the rows!!! ( shsh don't tell him I said that!! ) He is no mechanic.......
If no one available can anyone suggest somewhere that will fit that will not rob me. We could incorporate a tech day at my house if anyone interested i will provide refreshments etc or If there is a tech day anywhere soon I can travel.
Thanks a mill
Hilly :)

Hilly,

Fitted a new roof last year to a MkII - actually Colm did - and I just prepared the car and refitted the trim afterwards. I have heard some people say that it only takes a couple of hours - my advice - allow the best part of a day - not a job to be undertaken by the faint hearted imo - loads of how to do pages on various sites on the net - be happy to help but maybe somebody more experienced in the club could fit it for you - Where in the country are you ?

Hi Hilly,
I fitted 2 mohair tops on my own (well, with double left handed friend) and gladly give you a hand. Just name the date and hopefully I'm available.
+ Also see if you can pick a dry day or have a garage.
+ Did you already buy the roof?
+ If yes: What's the type (mohair/vinyl) make/manufacturer?
+ If no: Go for this mohair: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php?currency=EUR&products_id=159

C ya soon

thanks Guys
I am in Ennis ...... Have not got a date yet as she is still in body shop. however I will suit you on times and days once I get her back. It's a mohair with glass. if you are available Cloggy it would be great. I have an ol' barn so we can pull her in there.

Yaiks, I'm in Louth, 300km away.
Before I commit to Hilly, is there anyone who has been fitting tops in the South-West?

Hilly,
I think we should should get the ball start rolling, than we can see what suits best. Maybe opening a poll could assist with picking the most suitable date.

I am willing to do it straight after the Galway meet on Sunday the 26th.
Anyone else up for a mini-tech-day on the Sunday at Hilly's?
All hands are welcome and we should be able to turn this 4-5hr job into a 3hr top-job.
