Clutch Slipping?

Postby fabfiveferg » Tue, 18 Dec 2007 11:52 +0000

I have a feeling my clutch may be knackered. For a while I have had an occassional issue with getting reverse for example. Nothing serious but you might have to look for it a few times.

I'm noticing now that whilst driving if i'm just rolling behind someone in traffic say and I get some free road and floor it. I can hear plenty of engine noise but get limited drive for a few seconds.

Now I'm guessing that it's not a throttle, fuel or engine problem which leaves me with the clutch. Worn plate or something?

Anyone any ideas? Do I have a busy Christmas ahead?

I had the exact same problem with mine, used to find gears no problem, but when I put on the power she'd rev for a second or two, then she'd bite.................all before the clutch gave up!!!! So better ask Santa for a new clutch!

Feck it. This is my third car that's proven to be a Bonus eater. Stupid Christmas. :(

Right then. Any advice on clutches? Where should I look for one. MX5Parts or elsewhere.

Is it a handy job to change the clutch. Ooh does anyone want to have a mini tech day over Christmas.

Right. Had a look at a clutch replacement on Miat.net Mechanic it is so.

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/531

Will go for the standard clutch set from mx5parts.

Is there anything else I should be replacing while I'm at it?

Nope. Just got it put on the back of a truck, brought to the garage, told my mechanic to fix it, and called back three days later and drove her away!

I know Ivan. I took one look and figured that out.

The slave cylinder took me half a day and that's not exactly difficult.

I'll get some mechanic sucker to do it for me.

Hi Steve, think it was 90 for the tow on the truck, and nearly sure it was 200 euro for the clutch job. Fenton Autos Ballybritt 091 771212

How much to fit a timing belt ?
How much to fit a water pump ?
How much to fit break pads ?
How much to install a Turbo kit ?
How much to fit head lights ?
How much to fit shocks ?
How much to fit bushings ?

Fergus, maybe Sean will let you have a look at his dipstick while you're at it - maybe you could try to rub it smooth for him.
