HELP Wanted

Postby CashelMX5 » Mon, 14 Dec 2009 1:59 +0000

Hi All,

I'm heading to Dublin at the weekend and, as I don't fancy having the top slashed, I want to fit the hardtop. However, the style-bars are a little high on the passenger side and the top won't lock onto the body , therefore, I'll need to either lower the bars or remove them for the rest of the winter. My dilema is that while I have an idea how to go about the job I don't have the confidence to do so on my own. I did start but abandoned the attempt. So, I'm hoping that some kind soul, with the know-how, can spare me the time to help with the job. I'm willing to travel, within reason - I'm in Cashel, Co. Tipp.

Here's hoping,

Tom

Thanks Steve,

The problem is that the plastic seatbelt surround has to peeled back, the seatbelt mechanism has to be removed along with the bolt on the bars. The style bar bolt goes through the seatbelt plate and it's also held in place by the seatbelt bolt - ie; it's double bolted.

Thanks Ann for the offer but it's not just a case of removing a couple of bolts on the bars, see above.

Ferg, the only reports of knifing of soft-tops that I've seen on the forum have been in Dublin, even in secure (sic) car parks. Seems to be a big city thing. The only knives used around here are for legitimate purposes.

Think I remember how you had it.. unbolt the 10mm bolts that hold the plastic to the seatbelt tower (I think there is 2 or 3 each side and pull out the trim. You can then unbolt the seatbelt reel + other bolt for the bars.

LOL - this thread is quite funny. Glad you're getting the bars sorted though.

One could expand the sweeping statements too:

I am going to {Dublin/Cork/Limerick/Belfast/Galway/Robinstown} and don't want to {have my roof slashed/be raped by sheep/be knifed/be kneecapped/be exsanguinated/fall down a large pot-hole}. What are my options ?
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world

Not a sweeping statement, a statement of fact - I repeat, any mention of slashed soft-tops on this forum indicate that they have all happened in Dublin. The most recent mention was when a car was done in Bewley's Hotel secure (sic) car-park at Dublin airport. If I am concerned about something I believe I am entitled to express that concern and I don't think I am the only one who has, in the past, expressed the same concern or made a similar statement about the subject on this forum.

Ferg, with jackeens like you and your threats, tongue-in-cheek or not, is it any wonder why decent people, culchies or not, might be concerned.
