defo, the clutch is nearly on the way out so i was thinking of picking up a second hand 1.8 flywheel and getting it done for when the clutch goes

tread carefully on who balances it for you. It should really be dynamically balanced with the crank...

Probably a stupid question, but why do you want to alter the flywheel??

you are probably better off getting a used oem mazda one from one of the limited editions. rs ltd and r-ltd , vr-ltd etc

The jap import limited editions(mk1) weigh in at 12lbs compared to the standard 21 lbs
makes a huge difference , especially if you have a supercharger strapped on

can be had usually for circa 100 quids , give or take a bit ;)

check out steves link john, it explains it a hell of a lot better than i would!

$160 certainly cheaper than a new 1. ill email them on shipping costs.

Do you have any idea if the lightened flywheel was on the mk2 rs?

Ask them if they'll ship via registered USPS.. they can be a fair bit less and almost as fast as the couriers. Think you can get them to do pick ups too online.

Is this your daily driver?

If so read up on the drawbacks of light weight flywheels.
Ones i know of are increased gear lash noise in the box (not a nice sound when engine braking)
Also lumpier running in some aspects of driving due to less inertia.

these would apply to severely lightened flywheels only - sub 8lbs esp aluminium ones

the factory lightened flywheels have all the benefits with no drawbacks ;)
