Advertising....

Postby mrges » Mon, 28 Jan 2008 7:12 +0000

I just posted this as a reply on the "Spotted" category, and then thought I'd place it here as well....as it is more of a "general discussion" topic! (apologies for the duplication).

For what its worth....I think a screen sticker using the "MX5 Ireland.com" logo would be a good way of advertising the site, as well as looking good on the car(s) we drive. I still have the VW TDI sticker "Farfrompumpin" on the BMW (having used it on the Leon and two Golfs), and it still gets the odd reference made to it. The MK3 came with a smallish "MX5Community" sticker/logo on the front screen - and two people have commented on it so far.

I really (REALLY) dislike stickers on a car that I didn't put there - and aleways remove dealer stickers.....and on that subject, has anyone recently tried removing a "garage" sticker from the glass? Yesterday I tried to pick off the Mazda dealer's sticker from the back screen on the 5 and am convinced they superglued it on.....I had to resort to the old reliable hairdryer in order to remove it. Having paid over a sizeable wedge for a car (any car) I do not feel I should then advertise for them free of charge.

Well, I fell better for getting that off my chest!

Yep i agree! about the sticker I wouldn't mind a small little sticker on the back of the car (maybe a white background with any one of a selection of colours for people to choose from, these are some I put up on a poll last sept,

Ivan, I see you work in positive signs, could you sort something out there if there was a desire for it,,, obviously we'd all chip in our tuppence worth, pay into paypal or something.........

A, C and D came joint first in the poll that time. so no obvious winner there. Maybe give people a choice based on the colour of there car, like my sig, wont work for silver ones though.

First up, Yeah deal stickers really annoy me to along with the stupid surrounds they put around number plates or the number plates with there garage details all over it. My dad got a new car years ago and specifically asked them not to put any deal stickers on it. When he went to pick it up and the f***ing thing was plastered with em. (well had a few on it anyway)

As for the stickers thing yeah i like it, i would get one if some were produced.
Happy to chip in with the cost, If Ivan isn't able to get em done i will happily approach a guy i have used before who did my number plate and post em out to those who want em.

Stephen - the bumper sticker looks way cool! Initially I had thought of something a little bigger, that would attach to the inside of the glass - however your's looks just fine.

Ash, your idea for posting them out sounds really good - if you can be bothered with the hassle. Those interested could pay up front, including postage costs (and I don't see why something with Paypal couldn't be sorted out). I'm sure it wouldn't be too costly to have a limited run of stickers made - one of my daughter's friends got a do-it-yourself "sticker kit" for Christmas!!

As for the design - I could go for either A or C.

Yeah i can make up the stiickers no problem. I also have a paypal account (feckin paypal take 3.6 percent).

The best would be to screen print about 500, 3 colour would cost around 300 euro.

TBH i think we would be better off getting more of a club scene going have runs organised for the year make it look like we do something.

What are we advertising? for someone to come along and join an internet site?

Advertising would be better done by having a presence at the many car shows.

I agree with having a better presence with car shows and the like, but this site is a great knowledge base for users who at first may be intimidated by meeting a load of nerds with their roadsters  , and want to know where to get spares, whats that knock and the like, and then when they know us, sure they'll be only to happy to c'mon on an auld run or somethin...... 8) 8) 8)

Fair point Stephen. I would be a relative novice in technical terms. I just like the mx5, love the feeling i get while driving , maybe it's a mid-life crisis, or something like that.
If I was to get into a conversation about bhp, torque, turbo etc., I'd be f??%ed!
Went to Galway for a run last year.. great day out, looking forward to Dublin/Wicklow run on 10th Feb.
Would love to be able to hold my own on technical conversations, but chose a career in retailing instead of getting into the motor trade.
Speaking of "public" appearances, any progress with the Phoenix Park thing??

John

P.S. The sticker idea is a good one! :)

Stickers on the front window will fail you on an NCT if there too big so be careful of that, as for a sticker on the rear that would be fine. Id echo Ivan's comments though. We are by far the laziest (that or the busiest) car club in Ireland!!! We are all guilty of "not being bothered" but this has an effect on the club. When I initially joined there was a decent run at least every 6 weeks with an average of ten cars showing up in Killarney from all over the country. I understand people are busy I myself work between 6 and 7 days a week and rarely get time to sit down not to mind take a whole weekend off but my new years res. was to make more time for me and to get out in the five again. I find it a great way of unwinding. I really think we need to set at least 5 or 6 annual events that are on set dates so as to allow people to have several months to organise work, wives etc. I think this discussion needs to go behond stickers and look at the heart of this club, where has it gone?

I was really disappointed with all the fuss last year but Im hoping all that is behind everyone now and that we can concentrate on cars, great runs and just hanging out with like minded people.

Anyways thats my tupence worth, I hope we can build of that.

Hope the Wicklow run went well. Only got the handbrake back together this afternoon.

Good points all round I think. I'd be interested in a sticker, and yes I agree with Ivan & Fla re the group activities. Guilty as charged!

No more Mk1, now driving an '08 Mk3. Still fun!

I'll be honest after yesterdays poor turn out i'm not really bothered about putting in to much effort to organise the northern run.

I'll need confirmation of who is comming by the end of this week
and i'll see where we will go from there.

post your name on the relevant thread.

Thanks

Maybe we need pretty girls in the club, surely that would help bring a few of the ould fellas out!!!!!

Seriuosly though Im not sure what to do but our attendance record is shocking.. I think it may be down to the fact that a lot of us are strangers to each other so if we dont turn up who cares, where as if there were more groups of friends I think this has a much stronger effect. Im not really sure how that can be achieved but hey, maybe we need one BIG run and a night out and get every guy or girl to make the effort to get to that one, maybe after we see that 30 cars can pull up in one spot it'll inject the needed umph we need, or the zoom zoom as those clever chaps in Japan would say......

Any thoughts?
