May 19th-26th 2011 - El Gran Premio España! (BOOKING NOW!)

Ladies and Gents, boys and girls .. it has been suggested that we would take our cars for a road trip next year and taste the sights, sounds, smells and adventure of the Spanish Grand Prix @ Circuit de Catalunya

The dates are set in stone according to the F1 site.

I have been looking up options and return to France direct is possibly the best combination for price/length of time wasted off the road/directness.

There are limited details at the moment with respect to fares but from last years trip to France, I would think the return ferry will be sub €400. I will get details closer to the time we need to book.

Leaving Ireland on the Rosslaire/Cherbourg Ferry on the 17th and arriving back via Cherbourg again on the 24th would mean we would get the whole weekend at the track which is close enough to Barcelona for companions who may rather have a trip around the city rather than spend 3 days at the track.

For now, this is just a heads up and to gage interest. I might even be persuaded to arrange a house if I get numbers early enough.

So .. shall I get the ball rolling

Did it back end of April, left here on Wednesday afternoon arrived in Barcelona Friday afternoon! But was fleeced about € 80 motorway tolls in France! Please can we plan a trip without motorways!

I agree with Richard, regarding motorway fees. Being Dutch I went on holidays for years with my parents to Spain, always by car + caravan. Using the 'old' roads leads us through many beautiful places as against the motorways which are expensive and kinda 'boring' for us.
I'll have a bash at route planning and will make a suggestion to Shena, so she can decide.

Now Cloggy you KNOW better than to start that one up! I'm not even going to go there :D

I can't get prices for a while yet, but will try to have some ball park comparisons for ya'll for the xmas lunch/dinner/sessun mor .. if you'll are going to come.

Then we can banter the pros and cons of tolls versus country roads, ferries versus driving etc.

just to throw a notion into the mix... there be Ferries (even from Irl...apparently), but def southern UK which ply their trade to Northwest Spain - thinks its about a 24hr trip - & this definitely avoids the French tolls
