Hi all

Having wanted an MX for years, I finally took the plunge recently & bought one.... and then another...

Delighted to discover a group such as this & hope I can plug into some of the various events which might be going on from time to time.

I'm based in Killaloe, Co Clare, which I'm delighted to see is a potential destination for the April trip. Maybe I could put together a bit of a local tour, or arrange sustenance for weary drivers

There are a few more MX folks in the locallity, so maybe I could encourage them to come along...

Welcome to the joys of mx5 ownership, Feel free to get as involved as you want/can. If you can get together and organise a local route excellent, and if you can bring along some people all the better. :D
Hope to see you on a run soon.

Yup, we should be down on the Sunday of the Galway run (via Gort -> Scarriff, the road has been resurfaced since we were last down that way). Want to meet up in Scarriff, have a bit of a local run with a view to lunch in Goosers or similar? ;-)

Bought one last December - still on UK plates (shhh) - 1991, but has a bit of tatty-body. Then spotted an Irish car - again 1991, but in better nick so just had to have it. Both red (a bone of contention I see from other posts!) :D

I know I'm keeping one, but not decided what to do with the other one yet. Probably put it right & then decide. Late-onset insanity

Wrt the Galway run, if coming from Gort there are two routes - via Killaneena/Feakel or via Tulla. The latter is the better road.

Do you mean "better" as in straighter/wider?

When taking the Tulla road, do you turn for Broadford + O'Brien's Bridge? Am thinking it might be a good route to take, then turn off at Kilbane and come over the mountain down into Killaloe ...

MLC, I empathise. I decided on the MX5 instead of the more traditional affair for my mid-life crisis, because I thought it would cost less and require fewer lies (I'm not very good at lies - I'm crap at poker). Also I don't really do 'unfaithful'. Not my thing. I thought one benefit would be that I wouldn't have to hide the credit card receipts... but sometimes I do!

Anyway, enjoy the new wheels. Hope you get as much fun as I have from the MX5 over the last 6 years.

Simon
No more Mk1, now driving an '08 Mk3. Still fun!

The Gort to Tulla route is both wider and straighter - relatively. Not sure about the Kilbane to Killaloe over the mountain in an MX - especially after the rains we've been having. Let me drive it & see what state its in, as in places its not much more than a track (at least last time I was on it). Alternative might be Tulla - Bridgetown - Killaloe. Let me report back on a recce.

Forgot to address ur first question. In terms of the Tulla route, the standard option would be to travel via Scarriff to Killaloe

Great stuff!!

Last time I was over the gap we'd 6 or 7 MX5's with us and there was just enough room to get through. True about the surface tho, the rain can destroy it in places (usually the steepest  )

Thanks for that!

Hi

Did a recce out the gap road today to Broadford & its fine - it better than some of our major thoroughfares (mind you the judgement may have been a bit off as was sipping wine till 7am). No major ruts or potholes worth talking about.

Nice one! Will def plan to take it! The thing is... will coming from the Kilbane direction be as nice a view as the opposite direction?
