Use the original brackets straightened out a bit and you won't have an issue.

Hi guys,
Just back from sunny California. (should have stayed there?) The mx5 is popular in San Francisco, lots of unrestored models on the streets. I was just wondering, what thickness are these rails? 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm? The thicker they are the stronger they would be, up to a point... I suppose 1.5mm to be the best compromise as regards stiffness/weight. Will s/steel bolts be supplied?

see here for details on the rails :

You can pick up 1/2 inch M10 (I think it was) SS bolts, washers, etc from any hardware.
