Removing the cat,emissions??

Postby eyore » Fri, 18 Nov 2011 5:15 +0000

If I remove my catalytic converter and replace it with a non cat silenced box will the car be ok for NCT emissions? Anyone done this.I seem to remember I did it with a Fiat Coupe one time and it was ok, but cant remember for sure as I may have replaced the cat for the test. :?

what year is your mx?

if its 93 car or older you will get away with taking out the cat, as it wont be properly emission tested ,

ps. i have spare decat for mx5 here if your looking for one handy

The car is a 93 so I should be ok, thanks for that :D :D Wish I'd known you had one before I ordered from MX5 parts  My own fault for not asking first.

Hi Paul,
What is the advantage of removing the cathalyser? My car is an 92 eunos 1.6 auto. Would your de-cat be suitable for this car?

The two things noticed immediately are a more rorty noise, its not loud because its a silenced decat pipe but definitely nicer.
The other thing is its far more willing to rev freely especially at the lower revs, which can't be bad.

and something like 2 or 3 HP more, depending on what kind of cat was on, and how much buildup was inside it. But, as with a conefilter, mostly for the sound, not much to pick up on a dynorun.
