Salvage Phoenix

Postby darrend1 » Mon, 21 Apr 2008 12:27 +0000

Hi, This is my first time on... looking for some guidance.

I had / have a 1.8 Phoenix, unfortunately someone drove in to and wrote it off last July, while I was on holidays in Galway. Completely the other drivers fault, but the insurance only offered part of the value + the salvage to sell to make up the difference. They also wanted me to cover the initial recovery and subsequent storage costs!

I've been disputing this since about September, and they have only now offered me some money to do this, but I still have to get rid of the salvage as well. The main problem is that I am in Bangor, Co Down, and my 5 is a couple of hundred miles away in Oughterard outside Galway, so no point bringing it home, and then trying to sell it. Best to sell from there I think.

So to get to the point, does anyone know of any specialist / MX-5 breakers? It might be repairable, but probably more suitable for breaking at this stage. (2002 model with 38,000 on the engine)

Cheers. :D

Hi Ash,

Thanks for the contact. Unfortunately I didn't get another 5 - I miss it every bright day there's no rain! It was our (me and the missus) main car, so we replaced it with something a little more practical for the meantime. Got a Mazda 3 - nice car and a fair bit of poke. I hope to get another one as soon as I can though - probably an older model for tootling about in the summer!

Cheers,

Darren

Mark 1's are by far a better car anyway.................

No seriosly though if you can afford it then a mk1 as a second car would be ideal, cheap top down fun for the summer and considered to be the better drivers car as its less gadgets so more involved.
You can pick up some stunners in the uk for next to nothing if you can wait for one.
Hope that you work something out with the scrapper.
stick around (at least you still have a mazda) you never know you might be persauded to get another one.
Best of luck Ashley
