My diff decided today was a good day to die.

Postby TSS_RPRSNT » Thu, 24 Jan 2013 10:36 +0000

So yeah, my clutch hasn't been the may west for a good while now, pretty much been nursing it for the last couple of months. Today approaching a set of lights in second, the lights changed and I dropped into first and gave it obviously a bit too much welly, the clutch didn't bite and it just revved out. This has happened before with the clutch being on its last legs but today it was accompanied by a loud grinding and complete loss of drive in all gears. It still selects every gear fine but instead of biting just grinds. Got a tow off the ould lad and it grinded out of gear all the way home as well. I recorded a video as I've never killed a diff before, not the best idea to damage it/ wear it further but I wanted to get a quick snippet of the sound to help diagnose the problem which I'm sure there's a few people on here have had. There was less of the squeaking sound at first than there is now, I'm guessing that's rubbers somewhere getting chewed up. Basically I reckon I should find myself a 1.8 LSD to fit, I'm under the impression they're more or less a straight swap? Haven't been under the yoke yet, need to have a mooch around and do a bit of checking up. Any advice/ feedback from anyone who's been in a similar situation very much appreciated.

Cheers
Sean

Get a 1.8 diff and leave the 1.6 diff where it belongs.. in the bin 8) the swap is really easy, you just need a diff, half shafts and prop shaft.. Wont be hard to find..
bend the rules............rule the bends
