Sally Gap

Postby bergerac » Sat, 16 Mar 2013 5:53 +0000

Hi

As some of you know we're visiting over Easter from the Northwest Club - Snowman has already been in touch but here's another question

We're thinking of going along the ols military road to the Sally gap and Laragh on our way to Kilkenny but can't find out if the road is ok for Mx5 s , some of them with lowered suspension

Anyone tried it?

Should be clear by Easter, unless we get a VERY cold snap beforehand....What day/time are you planning..If I'm free I'd meet up with you and go across..won't be in the 5 but still like to show off our mountains!!! There is a beautiful additional run from Laragh, via Glenmalure on towards the Glen of Imaal, into Donard and across to Kilcullen, this will set you up nicely on to the motorway for Kilkenny..glad to escort you on this if I'm available...

Only traveled the road from the sally gap to laragh yesterday. Its clear of all snow and ice but is quite bumby for most of the way but if you go slow there shouldnt be any problems. Mine is stock on blitzens and i had no problems. Just watch those bumps some of them sneak up on ya. LOL

Road condition isn't great ever due to the height, but some amazing views. Check out Lough Tay and luggala nearby, beautiful spot. The Wicklow gap also provides some good views with better roads and both are near each other.
