Can you still use the rf2 form to declace a car off the road up to sept?
in other words say for example ones tax had just expired and the car was not taxed for a month or two could the old style declaration still be used before sept?

Just declared the car off the road. You have to use the old form, get it stamped by the Gardai and then/also use the new form to declare it wont be on the road. Pain in the arse.

All above correct but I understand ,which I find unusual ,but even the "new owner" has to back tax ??? Seems a bit too far!!! The tax office will notify you after a year when it needs to either taxed or new off road form filled out.Same as you currently get tax renewal forms.VOSA from Uk will be handling all this admin work from end Sept and apparentyly they are very tough. In the UK your car gets automatically crushed if its caught on the road when its supposed to be off road.!!

I was told in the motor tax office when I declared mine off for a year that I could put it back on at anytime after 3 momths , in other words that your car must be off the road for a minimum of 3 months. Also it must be parked on private property and not in a public place.

yeah, "off the road" so it has to be private property as far as I know.
No, the new owner isn't liable for back tax from what I've read, this does leave the inter-spousal "sale" loophole open though.
The fines are up to 4k I think.
Barney, I asked about that at the tax office, the minimum you can declare it off the road for is 3 months, but you can tax it during that period and "drive her on" as he put it ;-)
