Spark Plugs
Hoping to give the car a bit of a service on Saturday and was wondering about Spark plugs.
Is there a better make I should look out for and what are the size/requirements for sparks for the 5
Actually scratch that. by my calculations I've only done about 7000 miles on the curent plugs. So I'll have a look and unless i see any issues I'll leave them in.
The ignition leads however have not been changed AFAIK. What sort of mileage should you look at from the leads and should I decide new ones are in order any suggestions on makes/types
I've always assumed they last the life of the car. What leads are in it?
They do last a long time but not sure about the life of the car, They do fail leading to misfire, poor running etc.
You are talking decent mileage though before that happens but if you don't know the age of them (i.e the car came in from japan 3 years ago with em) then they are probably due a change. Yeah they've been on since she came from Japan.
Miata.net suggest that they are changed every 45,000 miles. As for what's on them at the moment Ivan, they look like the Grey ones
Grey ones, sure thats grand yu will get another year or two out of them.
Joking aside, i was asking to see if they where original, that they might be on the car from new. Mine had red aftermarket ones on when i got it. If i where you i would leave them till you are changeing the plugs i'd also stop smoking and shave my side burns.
The '5 is particularly hard on ignition leads as the coil fires on the off stroke as well as the ignition stroke (stock leads last around 35k ish), you'll notice an improvement straight away with a set of NGK (blue) or Magnecor (red) leads.

Then you end up robbing old ladies hangbags just so you can get a 1.8 Diff. Stop the madness now! just get standard leads they will be better than the ones in your car the last 10 or more years

no no ... I totally agree with Ivan.. if you do 3,500-ish miles a year
Sorry you will have to re read my post. What i mean is that new standard leads wil be better than the ones that have been in the car for the last 10 years or more.
