altenator cable?

Postby keithm416 » Fri, 07 Feb 2014 10:26 +0000

Hey all. Iv a Mk1 mx5 and had the altenator to fail last summer unfortunatly. Replaced it with a second hand one but am afraid of it going again since its not new. So tried tracing back the main lead from the altenator to the battery to fit an amp guage and couldnt find it without ripping the car apart. So, where is the cable?

Your wanting to fit a volt gauge? If so should do just connecting to any 12v source in the car

is it an amp or volt meter? They are very different, especially the wiring(you probably already knew that ;-) ).

I had this volt meter panel in my '5 a few years ago, v.cheap on ebay, very easy to wire :

Also put one in our camper last summer to keep an eye on the leisure battery :

Thanks for the help. Its an amp guage im fitting to see if its charging. i think i found it there under the gear lever grommet inside the tunnel, under the car. havnt checked properly yet but if so it will be handy to wire the guage in that case as i fitted a guage in the little pocket under the radio..
