For Sale: 1998 MX5 RS

Postby arnoldblackanddecker » Sat, 08 Mar 2014 4:23 +0000

First off, this will seem like a very short ownership (I've only had this a little over 3 months). It was always going to be a relatively short term car and had hoped to keep it until at least August as we've a baby on the way. However unfortunately a close relative got sick and subsequently passed away. This makes something bigger and more practical my only option really for travelling to family down the country. I say this only as I'm suspect with short ownership periods.

The car is known by a few here and I bought this from Kingers last November, so I'm sure that might account for something.
It's NCT'd until October this year and tax is just out. It has upgraded discs and obviously being the RS has a six speed box.

Pictures will hopefully do the talking but it's a genuine rust free solid RS, which are getting pretty rare now I'd imagine. It's got a good solid hood that survived the recent storms with only a drip so it doesn't get much worse than that. 4 very good unisport tyres, bose speakers etc.

There are a couple of issues, very minor though and the main one being the suspension. It's extremely low, with a very soft spring rate and so bottoms out quite a bit. My plan was to change these, and all my research points to the best option being Mk1 standard springs on the rear. Robert in Swords has these in stock. I've decided to sell the car as is, simply because I've been hit by so many different suspension ideas i'll let the new owner decide that route.

If it doesn't sell, i'll put standard springs on, take it off the road and put it up for sale closer to summertime.

The other issue is the radio doesn't hold the stations, I believe this is just an 'earth' connection but it's not something that ever worries me.

I'm looking for 2600euro which is a little less than I paid for it and I had it serviced (oil, filters, plugs etc.) and checked out by my mechanic.

I'm not looking for a swap but all roads seem to lead me towards a MKV Golf GTI as a replacement.

If anyone wants pictures of anything specific just let me know, I've just taken these as of this morning.
