Transporting a car within Ireland

Postby Fla » Sat, 07 Jun 2014 8:07 +0000

Hi all,

I was wondering have any of you ever used a company to transport a car or a five within Ireland. I know plenty do it from the uk but within Ireland seems a little more awkward. I need to transport my five from Donegal to Kerry. Fortunately and unfortunately I've just gotten a new job with a company where I'm on 6 days a week for a while and my one day off is spent doing paperwork for a business myself and the mrs have. I cannot get the time to get up north and collect her so I fear this is my only option.

Would be great if anyone had any company or a good single man operation that they've used and can recommend.

Cheers,
Fla

Put "transoport wanted" ad on Dondeal but just be careful you know who is collecting your car as there are some dodgy lads out there.Loads of garages dropping cars around the country and you might get "return" trip cheaply. Worked for me a few times but also few dodgy lorry drivers with no fixed abode....

Is the car driving and road legal? , if so someone might be interested in a road trip down.
I'd offer myself as I'm from Donegal living in Clare but I've just done my knee in and can't see myself driving for a while !
Car must be perfect though ,nct ,tax and insurance .
Best of luck with it

I know a guy from up north that does this with a trailer (MG Club guy) but have no clue what it would cost.... I can ask him if you like and see if he would be interested.

Hi Fla, there's a fella called James Doherty, JD Recovery Services, just outside Letterkenny that transports cars all over Ireland and the UK. He has a good reputation up around here and collects a lot of cars in England and Scotland. 0749139303 0r 0862289494

Thanks for the info guys. I obviously need at the best price possible and it would be ideal if I could piggy back on another shipment. I'll give JD a call on Monday and see what he would need.

Yolo, I don't want to put you out if your talking to that guy I'd appreciate it if you could ask a rough cost and if it's something that would interest him.

Cheers,

Thanks Yolo

Btw I'm happy if I can get the car to cork or limerick also. Once it's a bit closer in case they may be doing a run to somewhere.

Just to let you guys know I rang JD Recovery as recommended by Barney. They couldn't have been nicer. Car is shipping to next week so I am confirmed for the Galway run. First Tim in a five in nearly five years. Can't wait. Cheers for all the help.

JD Recovery have a great reputation up here. They also have a secure storage facility outside Letterkenny to store cars while waiting to be shipped.

Still waiting for my car. It's currently on the truck on the way from Donegal. It's a week late and I missed the run to Galway because of it. I'm a little disappointed with the communication from JD Recovery. Their nice people just not great at picking up the phone. Not sure should I haggle the price a bit as I had agreed to have it delivered a week ago and took the weekend off work too.

What ye think!??
