New roll bar by TR

Hey guys,

Is this a new roll bar by TR Lane? Haven't seen it before? What's the general opinion of TR bars? I hear they can be a pain to fit. This one looks a bit easier but does cost a bit more.

A good bar is one of the first jobs I want to do but the choice is head wrecking. Any advice?

I've fitted their GPV bar, yep its a bit of a pain, you need to buy a right angle drill attachment to get at the bolt holes at the side of the fuel tank.

Does that one you've linked to sit on the fuel tank??

That looks like for mk2/2.5. Sits flat, two bolts going where seat belts are and other two into back shelf. Simple fit. I don't think will suit mk1 looking at your pic Steve.

I remember you cursing alright Steve at the fitting of your one but it does look the bomb.

That one I've linked to is a mk1 only and ya it sits on the parcel shelf. There is still a bit of modifying with plastics but no where near as much as the other bars by all accounts. The regular bars are about €320 this new bar is about €420.

Yep, v.happy with it, no issues when dropping the roof and not too difficult to raise it from the driver's seat.

TR Lane sometimes have their bars on ebay cheaper. keep an eye out.

Don't think it should bolt to the back shelf if its a roll bar, should be going to the rear chassis legs.

Well I can't say for sure but these are the photos supplied by Moss. Looks like it sits on the shelf. Might not offer as much safety but far easier install.

The problem is the bar folding forward in an accident you can imagine the results. I would class this as a style bar cant see how this would take a roll.

Yes I agree with GER ,the back shelf is only light metal,no way its structural and may be dodgy if rolled over.Proper roll bar needs to be fitted through the shelf

The problem I've seen it on I think hard dogs website where the official line is that no roll bar will offer full safety. Technically it's just liability line by their lawyers but I'd put money on it if we email TR tomorrow they'd probably say no bar is more or less safe.

probably, I def feel safer with the rear legs through the floor at the back with some plates under it though.

Couldn't agree more. I'd actually like a full cage with the way I enjoy the car but that said it's very hard to get one of these companies to actually specify a safety level on any product as they are legally not required to and there is no Ncap type cert. would be nice to know before you spend any money that one product is safer/better than the other.

You can cut the rear shelf with a tin snips.
